高中毕业时学生的英语水平将相当于现在大学非英语专业学生四、六级的英语水平。
此外，新英语标准还有多种选择，学生可以根据自身实际，选择升学型或就业型英语课程。
升学型英语要求学生直接听懂大学外教的讲课，就业型英语要求学生毕业时可达到英语导游、宾馆服务或小学英语教学的水平。

4、 新课程标准对写作教学的具体要求为：写前要激发灵感,兴趣.明确目的和读者对象；讨论主题,搜索素材,写提纲；写时活动包括写初稿,规划文章结构,填空,看图作文,连句成文；写后活动有自我修改,相互修改,个人和小组面批,检查语言、文法、逻辑、用词,润色,制作板报、墙报等.对于写作的评价也有具体的标准.（见附表）
综上所述,可见新课标把英文写作放在了一个非常重要的位置来要求和处理.这与我们日常教学中存在的一些想法和做法有较大差距.
科学的写作教学会有下列好处：
1、 有助于提高学生的自主学习能力.通过相互批阅,学生的心态发生了变化.为了确保自己批阅的权威性,学生们必须查阅相关资料,无形中提高了学生的自学能力与研究精神.
2、 有利于提高学生的纠错能力.学生间水平尽管有差距,但总体上处于同一档次,通过给别人纠错可以警示自己以后的写作及运用.
3、 可以提高阅读理解水平.通过在规定时间里批阅作文,可以训练学生的阅读速度与注意力,进而提高他们捕捉有效信息的能力,以此达到提高阅读理解水平的目的.
