第一,从写句子入手,打实基础。《新概念英语》第二册在“致教师和学生”这部分中提到,如果从一开始就让学生写一篇完整的文章,会“产生灾难性的后果”,因此本书贯彻的是“从句子到段落,最后成篇”的原则。其中,此书对句子写作的重视程度尤其值得关注。第二册前三个单元(共72课)的写作练习全部是围绕简单句、并列句和复合句的写作训练进行的。我们知道,文章无论长短,都是由句子组成的,句子是表达思想的最基本单位。因此,句子能否写好是决定文章质量的根本因素。一般来说,评判文章中句子的质量,首先要看句子结构是否正确、表达是否准确。分析一些学习者写作水平难以提高的原因就会发现,他们欠缺的并不是写作的方法和技巧,他们缺乏的往往是最基本的写句子的能力。他们经常犯的语言错误包括:主谓不一致、指代不清、动词时态语态的滥用、词性混用、句子不完整、句子结构混乱等。因此,大量进行写句子的训练,以保证句子的正确和达意,避免造出一些中式英文句子是十分重要的。其次要看句式是否富于变化、生动多样。试想,如果一篇文章通篇都使用简单句,这样虽然找不出语言错误,但是文章会显得单调乏味,让人不忍卒读。因此,要根据情况,交替使用长句和短句,通过简单句、并列句和复合句等句式的运用,使文章生动活泼,富有节奏。《新概念英语》的句子训练就是围绕简单句、并列句和复合句来进行的,大量的练习会使学习者熟练使用这些句子。
