The increasing popularity of the news media makes it now of really powerful force and easy to be harnessed to cause negative influence. This is because many news media companies tend to broadcast sensational news in order to attract audience's attention and therefore get a high viewing ratings. This can easily lead to the false report which can distort the public's values and at the same time destroy an innocent person's life, for instance, a report on a crime without actual investigation.

〃 wish Central Bank would be robbed,〃George Pickens said to himself. He had been making this wish daily from the time he had started work as a teller at the bank.
All over the country banks were being robbed, George thought sourly. Why not this bank ?Were robbers scornful of its four-million-dollar capital? Were they afraid of Mr. Ackerman, the old bank guard, who hadn’t pulled out his gun in twenty-two years?
Of course, George had a reason for wanting the bank to be robbed. After all, he couldn’t simply take the thick bundles of bills that were under his hands all day long. So he had thought of another way to get them. His plan was simple. It went like this:
If Bank Robber A holds up Bank Teller B…
And if Bank Teller B gives Bank Robber A a certain amount of money…
What is to prevent Bank Teller B from keeping all the money left and claiming that it was stolen by Bank Robber A? There was only one problem. Where was Bank Robber A?
One morning George entered the bank feeling something was about to happen.〃Good morning, Mr. Burrows.〃he said cheerfully. The bank president muttered something and went into his office.
At two o’clock Bank Robber A walked in. George knew he was a bank robber. For one thing, he slunk in. For another thing, he wore a mask.
〃This is a holp.〃the man said roughly. He took a pistol from his pocket. The guard made a small sound.〃You,〃the bank robber said,〃lie down on the floor.〃Mr. Ackerman lay down. The robber stepped over to George’s cage.
〃All right.〃he said.〃Hand it over.〃〃Yes, sir.〃said George.〃Would you like it in ten-or-twenty-dollar bills?〃
〃Just hand it over!〃
George reached into his cashbox and took all the bills from the top section, close to six thousand dollars. He passed them through the window. The robber snatched them, stuffed them into his pocket, and turned to leave.
Then, while everyone watched Bank Robber A, Bank Teller B calmly lifted off the top section of the cashbox and slipped bills from the bottom section into his pockets.
The bank robber was gone. George fainted. When he woke he smiled up at the worried faces looking down at him.〃I’m all right.〃he said bravely.
〃Perhaps you should go home, George.〃Mr. Bell, the chief auditor, said.
As soon as he was safely behind his bedroom door, George took the money from his pockets and counted it. He had seven thousand dollars. He was very happy。
The next morning when George arrived at the bank, it was not open for business. But everyone was there, helping to examine the bank’s records for the special audit Mr. Bell was taking.
George was called into Mr. Burrows’s office. The bank president seemed strangely cheerful.〃George,〃he said,〃I want you to meet Mr. Carruthers, who used to be president of our bank.〃
〃Good morning, George.〃said Mr. Carruthers.〃I was sorry to hear you fainted yesterday. Are you all right now?〃
〃Yes, sir. Just fine, thanks.〃
〃I’m glad to hear it. That was quite an adventure. It just goes to show how easy it is to rob our bank.〃
〃Sir?〃said George, confused.〃
George, I was sorry to give you a hard time yesterday, but with all the banks being robbed these days I thought it would be a good idea to prove that our little bank can be robbed too. I have retired, but I haven’t stopped thinking. That’s why I played my little game yesterday, just to keep everybody on his toes.〃
〃I don’t understand.〃said George.〃What game?〃
The old man laughed and whipped out a mask. He placed it over his face and said,〃All right. Hand it over!〃Mr. Burrows laughed but George did not.
〃And the money?〃George asked in a small voice.
〃Don’t worry.〃Mr. Carruthers said.〃I put it all back in your cashbox, all six thousand. We’re just finishing up the audit now.〃George turned cold with fear.
Behind them, the door opened and Mr. Bell, the chief auditor, put his head into the room.〃Mr.Burrows,〃he said gravely,〃may I see you a moment?〃

Tony Blair chose the town of Sedgefield, the heart of his constituency in northeast England, to make his long-awaited announcement.
Tony Blair announces he will step down as prime minister on June 27, 10 May 2007
"Today, I announce my decision to stand down from the leadership of the Labour Party," he said. "The party will now select a new leader. On the 27th of June I will tender my resignation from the office of prime minister to the Queen."
With these words, Mr. Blair began the transition of power. The Labour Party is expected to select current treasury chief, chancellor of the exchequer, Gordon Brown, as its new leader, paving the way for him to become prime minister on June 27.
Speaking to party members in Sedgefield, Mr. Blair said that after a decade in power it was time to go.
"I've been prime minister of this country for just over 10 years," he added. "In this job in the world of today, I think that's long enough for me, but more especially for the country."
Mr. Blair recounted some of his government's successes, including Britain's booming economy, improvements in health care, employment and social benefits. He also talked of foreign successes: intervention in the civil conflicts in Kosovo and Sierra Leone. He spoke of Britain's part in the fight against terrorism, in toppling the Taleban in Afghanistan and in ousting Saddam Hussein from Iraq, although acknowledging Britain's involvement in Iraq remains a deeply controversial issue.
Mr. Blair admitted not everyone agrees with the decisions he made over the past 10 years.
"I did what I thought was right," he said. "I may have been wrong; that's your call. But, believe one thing if nothing else, I did what I thought was right for our country."
Mr. Blair acknowledged that not all expectations he had come into office with had been fulfilled. He said some people might say the expectations were too high, but he said he would not have wanted it any other way.

Rage, unrest reign in Ferguson
WASHINGTON, Nov. 29-- Rage and unrest have once again taken over in the past week in Ferguson, a previously little-known northern suburb of St. Louis, Missouri, in the wake of a grand jury decision not to indict a white police officer in the fatal shooting of a black teenager in August.
More than a dozen buildings along the West Florissant Avenue, a few blocks from where Brown was shot, were set ablaze and police cars were vandalized on Monday night following the announcement of the grand jury's decision.
On South Florissant Road, a main commercial strip in Ferguson, shops were looted with smashed windows.
Local residents and business owners were nervous and uncertain about the future in the once peaceful town of about 21,000 people.
As food is to the body, so is learning to the mind. Our bodies grow and muscles develop with the intake of adequate nutritious food. Likewise, we should keep learning day by day to maintain our keen mental power and expand our intellectual capacity. Constant learning supplies us with inexhaustible fuel for driving us to sharpen our power of reasoning, analysis, and judgment. Learning incessantly is the surest way to keep pace with the times in the information age, and an infallible warrant of success in times of uncertainty.
Once learning stops, vegetation sets in. It is a common fallacy to regard school as the only workshop for the acquisition of knowledge. On the contrary, learning should be a never-ending process, from the cradle to the grave. With the world ever changing so fast, the cease from learning for just a few days will make a person lag behind. What's worse, the animalistic instinct dormant deep in our subconsciousness will come to life, weakening our will to pursue our noble ideal, sapping our determination to sweep away obstacles to our success and strangling our desire for the refinement of our character. Lack of learning will inevitably lead to the stagnation of the mind, or even worse, its fossilization, Therefore, to stay mentally young, we have to take learning as a lifelong career.
2.heavy schoolwork【
In my opinion, the schoolwork now being assigned to high school students is too heavy. While it is true that students need to study, they need other things as well if they are to grow into healthy and well-rounded alts. High should be allowed more time for play. Playing is not wasting time, as some think. It gives them physical exercise, and also exercise their imagination. Which tends to be stifled by too much study. Finally, the pressure put on high school students by excessive schoolwork can cause serious stress, which is unhealthy physically and mentally. I do not advocate the elimination of schoolwork. I do think, however, that a rection of the current heavy load would be beneficial to students and to the society as a whole.
3.Time【时间】
Lost time is never found again. This is something which I learned very clearly last semester. I spent so much time fooling around that my grades began to suffer. I finally realized that something had to be done. It was time for a change.
Now I have a new plan for using my time wisely. I have set my alarm clock ahead half an hour. This will give me a head start on the day. I have also decided to keep a log of what I do and when I do it. Looking back on what I’ve done will give me some ideas on how to reorganize my time.
4.Work and Play【
Work and play do not contradict each other; in fact, they complement each other. As the saying goes, "All work and no play makes Jack a ll boy." A life burdened with work leads you nowhere, for you would get tired and bored with your daily routine work. On the other hand, proper recreation will relieve the tension and discomfort of our monotonous life because it offers you various ways to let out your pent-up emotions.
What I usually do to relax after school is jogging and seeing movies. Usually I don't spare time for exercise, but I value the physical ecation class at school. Jogging several rounds in the field certainly relieves the day's pressure. On weekends, I'll catch the morning movie for my visual enjoyment. I feel revived and energetic for another week's work-load.
5.My first Job【
My first job was at a cramming school. It was three years ago when I just graated from junior high school and finished the entrance examination. since I had nothing to do that summer, I decided to find a job, tasting the joy of independence.
I was responsible for answering the telephone and taking the message. I worked eight hours a day, six days a week. The work was not difficult nor heavy to me and I guess I did well. The most delighted thing was perhaps that I could spend the money I earned all by myself.
6.My Favorite Sports【
Sports help everyone to keep healthy, happy, and efficient. So I pay special attention to games, especially table-tennis. Table tennis is my favorite game. I play it almost every day.
Table-tennis is an ideal game us because it brings the whole body into action. It strengthens our muscles, expands our lungs, promotes the circulation of the blood, and causes a healthy action of the skin. Besides, it is very amusing and does not cost us much money. Table-tennis is very moderate; it is not so rough as football. It is an indoor game and can be played even on rainy days. Thus, it is my favorite kind of exercise.
