Reasons to Work For most people in the world, work is necessary in order to survive. Without work they cannot support themselves and their families. But not everyone works just in order to survive. Some people work in order to help others, some for the respect and admiration their work brings them, and others for personal fulfillment and satisfaction.
People who work for charitable organizations usually do so because they want to help people in need. They may be volunteers, or they may be given a small stipend for their work, but whatever monetary benefit they receive, it is not as important as the fact that they have made a difference in someone else’s life. Another reason some people work is because they enjoy the respect and esteem of others. Politicians are a good example. Of course, they often make a handsome salary, but in most cases, they could make more in a career in the private sector than in government. Other careers, such as that of an artist or musician, attract people who find their work personally fulfilling no matter what the monetary reward.
Although earning a living is a very important reason to work, and is probably the most common one, it is not the only reason. People may work for all kinds of reasons, including those described above or a combination of them. You know, for some religious groups they own some of the most famous charity workers in the world. For example, a large number of foreigners living in the poor area of Africa as doctors, teachers, and other professionals who were taught by their religious organizations to help the poor, sick, and needy people there without any complaints. I guess these professionals could make much more money if they worked in the developed countries. However they desire to stay there and help the poor people because they believe that their religion has taught them to help everybody and love everybody, and therefore they feel a sense of achievement when they do their jobs.
Some people help others because they have been helped by somebody in their lives before. They may have been changed by a great teacher who helped them and inspired them to be successful. Therefore they would like to be a teacher as well. Likewise, their family member's life was saved by doctors and they even felt that they cannot express their appreciation completely by paying money, thus they become doctors to continue to save others to repay the society. For the people like these, the motivation for working is not just the paycheck at the end of the month, but probably the smile on a child's face when he reads his first book at school, or the look of joy on the new parents' faces when they see their healthy newborn baby.
Finally, there are also some people who work for others because they believe that the society is only safe and stable when all of its members are happy and satisfied. These people include the government officials who try to make good policies that benefit the poorer classes of society. They know that only by making policies that help poor people live richer, happier lives can they rece the crime, sickness, and poverty rates, thereby making a more safer and happier society for all citizens.
All in all, I think all of us will find a job when we graate. No matter what we do, we should try to do something good for the society, to help other people as much as we can. To make the world a more beautiful and better place to live in.
