Her name is sometimes represented in the Western order (Ziyi Zhang).

Biography

Early life
Born in Beijing, China, Zhang joined the Beijing Dance Academy at the age of 11, and at 15 she entered China's prestigious Central Academy of Drama.

Career
At the age of 19, she was offered her first role in world renowned director Zhang Yimou's The Road Home, which won the Silver Bear award in the 2000 Berlin Film Festival. Zhang further rose to fame e to her role in the phenomenally successful Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, for which she won the Independent Spirit's Best Supporting Actress Award and the Toronto Film Critics' Best Supporting Actress Award. She went on to make Hero which was a huge success in the English-speaking world and an Oscar and a Golden Globe contender. Her next film was the avant-garde drama Purple Butterfly which competed at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival. She went back to the martial arts genre with House of Flying Daggers, which earned her a Best Actress nomination from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (she was in nearly every shot of that film).

For her next drama 2046, directed by Wong Kar-wai, starring many of East Asia's best-known actresses, Zhang won the Hong Kong Film Critics' Best Actress Award and the Hong Kong Film Academy's Best Actress Award.

Showing her whimsical musical tap-dancing side, Zhang starred in Princess Raccoon directed by 82-year-old Japanese legend Seijun Suzuki who was honored at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival.

She plays the leading role of Sayuri in the adaptation of the international bestseller Memoirs of a Geisha, with her Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon co-star Michelle Yeoh, as well as Gong Li and Ken Watanabe. The movie was proced by Steven Spielberg, directed by Rob Marshall, and released in December 2005. Zhang has received a Best Actress - Drama Golden Globe nomination for her role.

Zhang has also been known to sing, and was featured on the House Of Flying Daggers Soundtrack with her own musical rendition of the ancient Chinese poem Jia Rén Qu (佳人曲, The Beauty Song). The song was also featured in a scene in the film.

On 27 June, 2005 it was announced that Zhang had accepted an invitation to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), placing her among the ranks of those able to vote on the Academy Awards. Her formal welcome to AMPAS occurred in Beverly Hills, California on 21 September of 2005. In the fall of 2006, Zhang' most recent film was released, a new drama set in Tang Dynasty China called The Banquet (Yè Yàn 夜宴), though the Chinese title literally translates to "The Evening Banquet".

Zhang Ziyi has also been an advertiser for famous brand name companies such as the following: Maybelline, Pantene, Visa, Coca Cola, Asience (Japanese shampoo brand), LVMH Group, Lenovo, and Got Milk?

Personal life
Zhang has been taking English lessons. She stated in a 2003 interview that she had started them after she began receiving more and more fan mail from the United States. (One of the supplementary documentaries on the American Hero DVD features Zhang speaking in English, and her dialogue in Memoirs of a Geisha is almost entirely in English.)

As part of a self-taught crash course in the language prior to filming Geisha, Zhang listened to and repeated words and phrases she heard on television commercials and music CDs. One of the English-language recording artists she was listening to ring this time was Eminem, which apparently led to some embarrassing moments for the actress: "I don't always know what [Eminem] is talking about, so I write down the lyrics and repeat them. Later, I understood how rude they were." [citation needed]

She has also tried very hard to improve her English, both in the States and in China, and has made great strides, using some of the best English instructors, schools in New York, and apparently American and Canadian tutors in Beijing.

He may be still young, but look out world! He may surprise you! If you ask around, many would say that the music world has a new leader - the real king is Jay chou. As a child, Jay chou was never too good at academic subjects, and when he didn't get into any college, a lot of people predicted that he won't have much potential in life. His mom always worried about his future, but he never did. "I knew I still had music to depend on. For everything else, I've had too much confidence, but it is for my musical talent that I'm so sure of myself," he recalls. Growing up in a single-parent family, Jay lived a solitary childhood. Without many friends, he had a hobby of daydreaming, fantasizing into his world of music.

So how did Jay get into music? At the age of three, he started learning to play the piano. He recalls his mother being very strict, to make sure he practiced sufficiently. Later, he learned to play the cello. Today, both are two instruments that he plays with superior dexterity.

With all the musical talent, it isn't surprising that Jay started out as a songwriter. Since the age of sixteen, he has been writing songs for many of the most popular singers. Today, he has already written for some of the most popular Asian singers, including Coco Lee, Jacky Wu, Valen Hsu, Power Station, etc.

It was only in 2000 that Jay released his own debut album "Jay", with the main style being R & B / rap. Singer/actress Vivian Hsu wrote the lyrics to three of the songs in the album: Cute Woman, Istanbul, and Tornado. Jay's soft and smooth voice is especially soothing and serene, making this first album an immediate hit. Each song in the album has its own, different style, and skillfully, Jay used his voice to suit each song's character.

Lyrics are an element that cannot be neglected. Lyrics of Jay's songs all have a unique touch. In his song "Dad, I am Back", the subject is a broken family. "I heard that after war, there is peace. Why do I always see my dad beating my mom? Since I was young, you told me to learn from you, use you as a model. So much pretense. Mom always said be good, listen to your father. How do you expect me to be like you!" Then, in his song "End of the World", we see a different aspect of him. "Wanting to smile, to disguise the fallen tears. Gently nod, admit the fear of darkness. I just need, you to be at my side for a while. And you, won't bestow a small bit of sympathy."

Ultimately, it is Jay's talent that has brought him to fame. His first two albums were nearly created all by himself - songwriting, procing, harmonizing, etc. In his concerts, it is not unusual to see him play the accompaniment as well as sing at the same time onstage, while his fans cheer wildly from below.

This year, in 2002, Jay has won awards from all over the world. In China, he has won the most prestigious annual Channel V award for Best Male Singer. Today, he is often regarded as the best Asian male singer, and the reputation earned him a title of "Small King of R & B"

Elvis Presley:(尔维斯·普雷斯利——“猫王”)

Was Elvis more famous for his music or his hips? True, his rock-and-roll style was fresh and daring. But so was the way he swiveled his hips when he sang.

Presley was the first singer to blend the rhythm-and-blues style of black musicians with the country-and-western style of white singers. In doing so, he became a pioneer of the rock style. Most major rock singers claimed that Presley influenced them.

HIS FIRST HITS

Elvis Aaron Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, in 1935. He grew up listening to gospel music, country and western, and rhythm and blues. At age 10, he won a talent contest singing a ballad called “Old Shep.” In his teens, he taught himself to play the guitar.

After high school, Elvis worked as a truck driver. In 1953, he decided to record some songs for his mom’s birthday. The studio he went to was thrilled to release Elvis’s first two records, “That’s All Right Mama” and “Blue Moon of Kentucky.”

Elvis was a star overnight. Five of his records shot to number one in sales: “Heartbreak Hotel,” “I Want You, I Need You, I Love You,” “Don’t Be Cruel,” “Hound Dog,” and “Love Me Tender.” His rebellious music was matched by his electric performance onstage. He had a way of moving his body that drove teens into a frenzy (and made parents frown).

MOVIE STAR

Elvis began starring in movies that featured his own music: Love Me Tender (1956), Jailhouse Rock (1957), and King Creole (1958). He served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960. After the Army, he went back to musical films. Critics disliked his later movies in which his rebellious image became more wholesome.

His hit songs continued, though, with “It’s Now or Never,” “Return to Sender,” and “In the Ghetto.” Fans worshiped him. They were crushed when he died, in 1977, probably as a result of overusing prescription drugs. You can visit his grave at his mansion, Graceland. It’s a major tourist site in Memphis, Tennessee.
