英语阅读理解能力在英语教学中变得越来越重要。从近几年中考、高考试题中可以看出，阅读题的比例达到50%以上，这就要求我们在平时的教学过程中要特别留意培养学生的阅读能力，虽然阅读能力不是一朝一夕就能提高的，但可以从以下几方面做一些努力：
一、激发学生的阅读兴趣
如何根据学生的年龄特点和英语的学科特点来激发学生的兴趣，是每位英语教师都很关心的问题。在具体工作中，首先要充分熟悉教材，准确把握其理念和特点，做到驾驭自如，并认真分析学生的心理需求，明确其兴趣所在，从而巧妙设计难度适宜的阅读辅助题目，结合艺术的讲解，不断满足学生的求知欲，由浅入深，使学生对英语阅读的内容、形式产生兴趣并长期保持。这样，提高学生的阅读能力便有了前提和保证。当然，阅读是以识字为基础的，积极的背单词，拥有一定的词汇量才能使阅读成为可能。
二、在平时教学中培养兴趣
坚持每节课前给学生一定量的阅读时间，比如4~6分钟，每个单元的单词、课文都要他们在学习该课之前先过一遍，对文章内容有所了解。在阅读过程中教师要起督促检查的作用，让学生自觉养成阅读的好习惯。还要注重课文阅读的练习，以检查学生对文章理解的程度。在教学过程中，针对每篇材料，我们可以让学生采取下列步骤进行练习：首先、对材料进行扫读，以最快的速度获取有关信息，寻找要害词，把握文章的主题；第二、对材料进行略读，寻找主题句，把握文脉以及语篇衔接的关联词；第三、对材料进行细读，辨别事实，把握细节。理解难句以及进行词义推断；最后、进行深层次精读，把握语言所载社会文化的背景，理解文章的内涵，进行逻辑推理，评价判定作者的思想观点和态度，揭示文章的深层意义。这样在教学的同时就能够逐渐的培养和提高学生的阅读能力。
三、拓宽阅读范围
将课堂阅读延伸到课外阅读。学生在具备了一定的词汇、语法知识，把握了一些基本的阅读方法之后，阅读由课内转向课外就成为必然。但是对课外阅读材料的选择，需要教师把握好。大纲要求在教师有计划地指导下让学生进行课外阅读（即泛读）。在给学生选择材料时可以掌握以下原则：（1）思想性强，内容健康；（2）材料难易适合学生实际水平；（3）题材涉及面广，趣味性强；（4）文章体裁多样化；（5）语言地道、规范。
通过广泛的阅读，不仅有利于学生扩大词汇量、丰富语言知识、开阔视野、开拓思路，还有利于学生了解英、美等国的文化背景、生活习俗、思维习惯及英语特有的语言表达方式，从而提高阅读理解能力和英语运用能力。
四、讲究阅读（泛读）方法，明确阅读目的，提高理解正确率
阅读的目的是为了获取信息，理解是否正确是阅读的关键。为了掌握文章所表达的思想，领悟文章内涵，提高对文章的整体理解能力，阅读时要讲究阅读方法。泛读的阅读方法不同于精读。泛读广泛、大量、快速，故重点应放在针对问题快速捕捉信息上。主要方法和技巧如下：
（1）确定文章中心思想，注重文章的首句和末句。一篇文章通常是围绕一个中心思想展开的。通常文章的中心思想包含在文章的首句，有时在文章的末句，其它句子都是用来说明和阐述主题句的。因此在确定文章的中心思想时，要求学生重视阅读文章的首句和末句。
（2）掌握具体事实和重要细节。文章中的具体事实、重要细节是主题句的扩展、补充说明，是用来支持说明中心思想的主要观点。掌握这些细节是归纳、概括文章中心思想的基础，对理解全文的作用是不容忽视的。
（3）运用语境，构词法等猜测词义。阅读文章时，理解词义是基础，而同一单词往往因语境不同而产生词义变化，因此只有联系上、下文，结合文章中的词境，在理解的基础上大胆猜测，体会意义。在阅读中碰到的一些生词，可以通过词缀法、合词法等构词法去猜测词义：如前缀“un-，im-，dis-”含否定之意，“re-”表“重复”，“mis-”表“错误或失当”；又如后缀“-ee”于动词后，表“受事者”，“-ism”表“主义、学说”……用语境构词法，不仅可以提高阅读理解能力，而且可以加快阅读速度。
五、引导学生养成良好的阅读习惯，加快阅读速度
所谓习惯，就是一个人行为方式的自动化，是不需要思考和意志努力的行为方式。一个好的习惯养成后，能使人终身受益。习惯不是天生的，帮助学生养成良好的学习习惯，是教师教育教学能力的体现。英语教师应引导、督促学生养成阅读习惯。
1、养成默读习惯。有的学生阅读时习惯发出声来读或心里默念，甚至用笔或手指一个词一个词点着念，这些阅读方式会大大降低阅读速度。因此教师应指导学生把注意力集中在文字符号上，形成默读的习惯，以提高阅读速度。
2、扩大视幅，减少回视。有些学生习惯于来回数次往返阅读，或是一眼看一个单词，这样逐词阅读不仅速度慢，而且很难一下子抓住全句意思，因为在一个句子中，一个词往往不能独立地表达一个具体的意思，如果逐词读，那看过之后，脑子里留下的只有零散的单词，不能很好地理解文章，进而影响阅读速度。而以意群为单位阅读，不仅速度快，且能很快抓住全句的意思，因此教师应该训练学生整句或成组视读。
3、阅读时遇到生词时要做到尽量少查词典或是不查。有些学生在阅读过程中，一遇到生词时便查字典，这样会影响阅读速度和理解，因为人的瞬时记忆是很短暂的，查完生词再往下看，会影响文章内容的连贯性，甚至忘记前面的内容。教师应该鼓励学生在遇到生词时利用上下文，构词法等来猜测、判断它的词义。
4、限定阅读时间。为提高阅读速度，在规定时间内要求学生有效地获取信息，加快阅读节奏，从而为高考等在规定时间内高质量地完成限定内容奠定良好的基础。
总之，在英语教学中，一定要转变观念，重视方法的渗透和培养。教师作为学生学习活动的组织者和指导者，要着力帮助学生形成有效的学习策略，教会学生学习。就阅读而言，想方设法调动学生的兴趣，督促学生养成良好的学习习惯，帮助学生掌握一定的学习技巧，一步一步的坚持不懈地对学生进行有目的的阅读训练，并注意适时适当的调整方法，一定会收到预期的效果。

Although the trick was not the most originality one , as Roald Dah’ words were really vivid, mr twit’s surprised expression and mrs twit’s happy face after the trick just like living in front of me , it became the trick I love the most .
The colorful word also make the characters active . Roald Dah had made a successful creation of two very distinct personality role , mr and mrs twit . Mrs twit who once very beautiful , but thinking ugly thoughts caused her to transform into the ugliest woman in the world and always use her cane as a weapon against children and animals. Mr twit , a trollish person and a beer drinker having hair that covers his whole face, except for his forehead, eyes and his nose.
On the whole, although part of the book were quite disgust , the lively text and the attractive role made the book full of color and made it a unforgettable and remarkable book .
