Tom arrived at the bus station quite early for Paris bus. The bus for Paris would not leave until five to twelve. He saw a lot of people waiting in the station. Some were standing in line(排队), others were walking around. There was a group of schoolgirls. Their teacher was trying to keep them in line. Tom looked around but there was no place for him to sit.
He walked into the station cafe(咖啡馆). He looked up at the clock there. It was only twenty to twelve. He found a seat and sat down before a large mirror(镜子) on the wall. Just then, Mike, one of Tom’s workmates came in and sat with Tom.

“There’s plenty of time yet,” answered Tom.

其实,预习在整个英语学习的过程中具有十分重要的作用.
二、明确课前预习的任务和目标
三、仔细阅读相关的语言材料
通读有关的语言材料,基本了解语言材料的中心内容,体会课文的语境和作者的感情.遇到不认识或不理解的词汇和短语,先做个记号,然后联系其所处的语言环境(上下文),猜测词义,作出判断.因为语言环境不同,词的意思也各异.如果每篇课文我们都能如此学习,那么,我们的阅读理解能力以及结合语言环境解决疑难问题的能力将大大提高.
四、通过预习,初步扫除下一步学习中的语言障碍
各单元的学习都是从词汇入手的,可以说生词是英语课堂教学的主要障碍.对于这些障碍,一方面我们可以根据新旧知识的联系加以分析;另一方面我们可以借助字典和其他工具书,把生词的拼写、读音、词性、用法及例句记在笔记本上;对于课文,可以查阅相关资料,了解课文内容的背景知识.有条件的同学可以利用因特网、网络全书查找背景材料.这样在课堂上我们就能腾出更多的时间和精力,加深对重点、难点的理解和运用.
五、预习过程中要做好预习笔记
做好预习笔记须做到以下几点：一是摘抄新旧短语和表达法.旧的短语和表达法一段时间不用,很快就会生疏,每一次复现都是一次有效的复习;二是摘抄典型句型,这样可以不断丰富我们的语言材料和语言知识;三要注意把预习过程中遇到的难点记录下来,以便听课的时候有针对性;四是预习笔记可以同课堂笔记合一,使课堂笔记成为预习笔记的补充和延伸.
