(1) The best title/headline for this passage is _______. (2) The passage (or the first paragraph) is mainly about ________. (3) What is the main idea/topic/purpose/subject of the passage? (4) Which of the following titles best summarizes the main idea of the passage? (5) The passage mainly discusses/deals with ________. (6) Which of the following best states the theme of the passage? (7) What topic is treated in the passage? (8) The passage makes clear that ________. (1) Which of the following is NOT included/ mentioned in the passage? (2) Which of the following (sentences/statements) is NOT true? (3) According to the passage, all of the following are true except/but _____. (4) Choose the right order of the events given in the passage. (5) Which of the following maps/diagrams gives the right position of…? (6) Which of the drawings below gives an idea of what …is like? (1) The word "…"in the passage means______. (2) The word "…" could be best replaced by ______. (3) Which of the following is nearest in meaning to _______. (4) The word "…" probably refers to _______. (5) According to the passage, the word "…" is known as ______. (6) From the context, we can infer that the word "…" means ______. (7) The phrase "…" is closest to _______. (8) By saying "…" the author means _______. (9) The passage uses the word "…" to refer to ______. ③ 根据关联词,如:but, however, yet, unlike, like, not only…but also. at the same time 等. He replied quickly. But after he considered the problem more carefully, he regretted having made such a hasty decision. Unlike his brother, who is truly handsome man, John is quite homely. Jim just hummed the tone of the song; he didn't sing the words. A dog ran into the road, causing the cyclist to swerve. People need time to grieve after the death of a loved one. At the first glance, I was struck by his shabbiness---his overcoat was worn, his shoes were in bad shape, and his trousers were dirty. (1) We can know from the passage that ______. (2) We can infer from the (first/last) passage that ______. (3) The passage implies that ________. (4) The passage suggests that _________. (5) It can be concluded from the passage that _______. (6) What can be concluded from the passage? (7) From the passage we can draw the conclusion that ______. 在做题时,注意题目中含有 know, what do you think/suppose…? 含有 imply, suggest, infer, seem, appear, probably, most likely 等的一般是推理. (1) The author seems to be in favor of / against ______. (2) The author's purpose of writing this passage is _______. (3) The author may probably agree with/ support _______. (4) What's the author's attitude towards _______? (5) How does the author feel about ________? (6) The author implies that _______. (7) The author gives the impression that ________. (8) In the author's opinion, ________. (9) The tone of the author may be _______. (10) Which of the following can best describe the attitude towards ______? 又如, 如果把 have words with sb 理解为"跟某人谈话",那么就错了,它的意思是"跟某人吵嘴";而 have a word / talk with sb 的 意思才是"跟某人谈话". A→Q→A(A=Article,Q=Question),即先从整体去阅读文章,后看问题,接着根据 文章去解答问题.

1. It is _______ outside. Let’s put on our raincoats and go out, Tom.
A. cold B. hot C. sunny D. rainy
2. —_______ do you _______ about spring?
—The flowers and the green trees.
A. How, like B. How, think C. What, think D. What, like
The flowers and the green trees.
3. —What’s your sister like?
—_______.
A. She is a worker B. She likes pears
C. She is very thin D. She is like her father
What’s … like?
4. —It’s too hot. Would you mind _______ the door?
—_______. Please do it now.
A. to open, OK B. opening, Certainly not
C. opening, Of course D. to open, Good idea
由答语中的Please do it now.
5. —If you have any trouble, be sure to call me.
—_______.
A. I am glad to hear that B. I will. thank you very much.
C. I have no trouble D. I will think it over

1. We should keep _______ in the reading-room.
A. quite B. quietly
C. quiet D.quickly

2. The light in the room wasn’t _______for me to read.
A. enough bright B. brightly enough
C. enough brightly D. bright enough

3. She is _______of the two.
A. the cleverest B. the cleverer
C. the clever D. cleverest

4. —How far is the factory from here?
—It’s about 4 kilometres _______.
A. far B. long
C. away D. near
其实,问距离时可以用How far is ….

5. —Do you have enough men to carry these chairs?
—No. I think we need _______ men.
A. another B. other two
C. more two D. two more
If you give us another twenty minutes (= twenty more minutes), we will finish the work.

6. He is taller than _______ girl in his class.
A. any B. other
C. any other D. another
China is larger than any other country in Asia. Shanghai is larger than any other city in China. 这里主语he不属于girl in his class之列,不能用other, 因此正确为A。

7. How beautifully she sings! I have never heard _______ voice.
A. the best B. a best
C. the better D. a better
I have never heard a better voice than her voice.

8. _______ fathers made them have piano lessons.
A. Peter and Ann’s B. Peter’s and Ann’s
C. Peter’s and Ann D. Peter and Ann
平时考生们做多了“This is Lucy and Lily’s bedroom.

9. There are a lot _______ people today than yesterday.
A. of B. / C. most D. more
有不少考生因受“ a lot of +名词”这一思维定势的影响,一看到a lot,就选择了A。

3. “Excuse me, are you _______? ”
“No, we are _______. ”
A. American, Englishman B. American, Germans
C. American, Germen D. Englishman, Americans
先看第一空:如果单从Excuse me, are you _______? Excuse me, are you an Englishman?

10. A spaceship flies at about eleven kilometers _______ second.
A. / B. the C. a D. an

11. _______ India and China are of _______ same continent.
A. /; the B. The ; the C. /; / D. /; a

12—You’re very ______, aren’t you? —Yes. Our team has won the game.
A. happy B. worried C. sad D. afraid

13—Your spoken English is much better! —______.
A. Oh, no B. You’re right C. thank you D. Not at all

14I hear someone _______at the door. Please go and see who _______ is.
A. knock, he B. knocking, he C. knock, it D. knocking, it
大家都知道hear sb. do sth. 有人敲门时我们常常用英语问“Who is it?”

15. Lucy and I are classmates. We _______ in Class One.
A. all are B. are all C. both are D. are both

16. There is _______ egg at home. Will you please get _______ for me, please?
A. no, some B. not, some C. not any, any D. not an, any
Would you like…? / What would you like…? / Could you/ I …? / What about…? / How about…? / Would/ will you please…?

17. —A latest English newspaper, please!
—Only one left. Would you like to have _______, sir?
A. one B. this C. that D. it

18. —Don’t make any noise in the living room! My baby is sleeping.
—_______.
A. Sorry, I won’t B. It doesn’t matter
C. Excuse me, I’m wrong D. Certainly, I won’t

19. —I haven’t seen Jack for three days, is he ill?
—_______. His mother told me that he was in hospital.
A. I am afraid so B. I hope not
C. I don’t expect D. I am afraid not
His mother told me that he was in hospital. I am afraid so.

20. —Excuse me. May I use your computer?
—_______. It’s broken.
A. Sure B. Yes, here you are
C. With pleasure D. I’m afraid not
由下文的It’s broken. 这里I’m afraid not.

21. —Can I get you something to drink, Mr Smith?
—_______. I am thirsty.
A. Here you are B. No, thank you
C. You’re welcome D. Yes, please
表示接受,也可以说No, thank you.

22. —Your sweater is very beautiful, Joan!
—_______.
A. thank you all the same B. Not at all
C. Just so-so D. thank you

23. —What do you do? —_______.
A. I am thirteen B. I work hard
C. I’m fine D. I’m a student
B。What do you do?
注意:以下句型的意思:What is he? What does he do? (= What’s his job? ) (用来询问职业) What is he like? How is he? How old is he?

24. —Andy isn’t going out this evening, is she?
—_______. She has to stay at home to look after her sick mother.
A. Yes, she is B. No, she isn’t
C. Yes, she isn’t D. No, she is
Are you a student? / Aren’t you a student? / You are a student, aren’t you? / You aren’t a student, are you?

25. —Hello. May I speak to Mr. Wang?
—Who’s calling, please.
—_______.
A. I’m Mr. Wang B. Mr. Wang is here
C. This is Mr. Wang speaking D. Mr. Wang is calling
… is here. ”而习惯上说“This is … (speaking). / Speaking.

26. —I fell and hurt my leg just not.
—_______.
A. Be careful B. It doesn’t matter
C. I’m sorry to hear that D. Nothing serious
而在英语中听到对方诉说一些不幸的事情时往往要说“I’m sorry to hear that. / Bad luck!”

27. —_______.
—thank you very much. I will.
A. Congratulations! B. Best wishes to you
C. Please say hello to your family. D. What a good wish to your family!
因为A和B两项都可以用thank you very much. C。Please say hello to your family.

28 Is there ______ food in the fridge?I’m hungry.
A. some B. any C. something D. anything

29 ______ have you been to Xi’an?
—Twice. (from www.zkenglish.com)
A. How soon B. How m any times
C. How often D. How long

30 There are a lot ____ people today than yesterday.
A. of B. most C. / D. more

31 Shanghai is larger than ____ city in New Zealand.
A. any other B. other C. all other D. any

32 —Would you like some more fish?
—______, I’m full.
A. Yes, please B. No, thanks
C. No, I won’t have it D. Yes, I won’t to

33 —You are a beautiful girl. —_____.
A. No,I am not beautiful B. thank you
C. Not at all D. I’m not so beautiful as you.

34I will ring you up when I ____ Wuhan tomorrow.
A. will reach B. reached C. reaches D. reach

35 He told m e that the sun ____ in the east.
A. rose B. had risen C. rises D. have risen

36 The People’s Republic of China was founded.
A. on October 1, 1949 B. 1949, on October 1
C. in October 1, 1949 D. 1949, in October 1
(2) Which is ____, the moon or the earth?
A. big B. bigger C. biggest D. the biggest

The farm ers are all busy ____ apples.
A. pick B. to pick C. picking D. to picking
像这样的固定用法还有enjoy doing sth, keep(sb /sth )doing sth, finish doing sth, can’t help doing sth, feel like doing sth, m ind doing sth, prerfer doing sth to doing sth 等等。

About 1980 the Netherlands will complete a project begun in the 1920’s: transforming the Zyuder Zee, an inlet (小港) of the North Sea into dry land and a freshwater lake. By stages, 550,000 acres of land will serve several purposes: instrial, recreational, military, and agricultural. Fed by the river Yssel, the remaining water basin Lake Yssel, about 300,000 acres will irrigate the surrounding land and help in the fight against salination Excess water will drain through sluices into the sea.
As the first stop a nineteen-mile-long barrier dam, rising twenty-five feet above sea level, closed the entrance to the Zuider Zee. Then the experimental polder of a hundred acres preceded the first and smallest of the main polders fifty thousand acres that became dry land in 1930. The fifth and largest polder 150,000 acres will be the last of the Zuider Zee works.
Farmers for the new polder (开拓地) come from every province. The Eastern Flevoland polder, completed in 1957, became farmland for many from the province of Zealand which was badly hit by the disastrous floods of 1953.

During the Christmas shopping rush in London, the intriguing story was reported of a tramp(流浪汉) who, apparently through no fault of his own, found himself locked in a well-known chain store late on Christmas Eve. No doubt the store was crowded with last minute Christmas shoppers and the staff were dead beat and longing to get home. He seems to have been a man of good humor and philosophic temperament---as indeed vagrants(流浪汉) very commonly arc. Everyone also was enjoying Christmas, so he saw no good reason why he should not do the same. He submitted, cheerfully enough, to being taken way by the police. Perhaps he had bad a better Christmas than usual. He was sent to prison for Seven days. The judge awarded no compensation to the chain store for the food and drink our tramp had consumed. Christian Eijkman, a Dutch doctor, left the Netherlands for the island of Java. Many people on the island had a disease called beri?鄄beri. He was going there to try and find a cure.
At first, Eijkman thought some kind of germ (细菌) caused beri?鄄beri. He raised some chickens. He didn’t eat them, but made experiments on them. The local people were quite surprised at that. One day he noticed that his chickens became sick when they were fed the food most Javanese ate — refined white rice (精炼米). When he fed them with unrefined rice, also known as brown rice, they recovered. Eijkman realized that he had made an important discovery — that some things in food could prevent disease. These things were named vitamins (维生素). The Javanese were not getting enough vitamins because they had actually removed the part that contains vitamins. Later, other diseases were also found to be caused by the lack of vitamins in a person’s food.

C ★★
America is a mobile society. Friendships between Americans can be close and real, yet disappear soon if situations change. Neither side feels hurt by this. Both may exchange Christmas greetings for a year or two, perhaps a few letters for a while — then no more. If the same two people meet again by chance, even years later, they pick up the friendship. This can be quite difficult for us Chinese to understand, because friendships between us flower more slowly but then may become lifelong feelings, extending (延伸) sometimes deeply into both families.
Americans are ready to receive us foreigners at their homes, share their holidays, and their home life. They will enjoy welcoming us and be pleased if we accept their hospitality (好客) easily.
Another difficult point for us Chinese to understand Americans is that although they include us warmly in their personal everyday lives, they don’t show their politeness to us if it requires a great deal of time. This is usually the opposite of the practice in our country where we may be generous with our time. Sometimes, we, as hosts, will appear at airports even in the middle of the night to meet a friend. We may take days off to act as guides to our foreign friends. The Americans, however, express their welcome usually at homes, but truly can not manage the time to do a great deal with a visitor outside their daily routine. They will probably expect us to get ourselves from the airport to our own hotel by bus. And they expect that we will phone them from there. Once we arrive at their homes, the welcome will be full, warm and real. We will find ourselves treated hospitably.

The other day I heard a few local musicians talking:
“I hate all the terrible pianos in this town. I hate that rubbish they play on the radio. They can’t even understand a bit of music.”
“I’m never playing in that club again. Too many drunks and nobody listens to us.”
But, one younger musician said, “There are a few clubs that book my band a few nights a month, and I’m trying to find other places to play. I’m also looking to book a few summer festivals this year.”
I’ve heard that you are the average of the five people whom you spend the most time with, or to put it another way, you are who your friends are.
Attitudes are important. Whether they’re positive or negative, they’re rubbing off on you. If you’re around people who complain about lack of work and about other musicians, or blame (责怪) others, and you play the role of victim (受害者), chances are you will start to as well. So it’s time to take a look at the people you call “friends”.
This is an easy exercise: Make a list of the people who you hang out with, and simply stop spending time with the negative people on your list. Set a new standard (标准) for yourself and don’t become friends with people who fall below that standard.
Keep successful people around you and your own chances for success will be much better. Ask them how they do it. Ask if they will help you get the work you’re looking for, or maybe give you some advice to help you on your career path.

73. The musicians’ words at the beginning are written mainly to show ______.
A. the musicians’ living conditions are quite poor
B. people have poor taste in music
C. people have different attitudes towards the same thing
D. young people have greater chances of succeeding

There are many ways to find a job. It can be as easy as walking into a neighborhood store to look at its announcement board. Local stores often have areas where people can put small signs telling what kind of service they need or can provide. Such services include caring for children or cleaning houses.
Or, job searchers can look in the newspaper. Local newspapers have employment announcements placed by companies seeking workers.
Another popular tool for finding jobs is the Internet. For example, people in four hundred and fifty cities around the world can use the Craigslist Web site to buy objects, meet people or find a job. Craigslist says that it receives two million new job listings each month.
Another useful way to find a job is through a college or university. For example, students at the University of Texas in Austin can go to the Career Exploration Center to get help in finding a job. Of course, looking for a job requires knowing what kind of work you want to do. For example, there is a book called “What Color is Your Parachute (降落伞)?” by Richard Bolles. This book has been helping people choose a career (职业) since it was first published in nineteen seventy.
Some experts also help people find jobs. Susan W. Miller owns a company called California Career Services in Los Angeles. She says her company helps people find jobs by first helping them understand their strengths, goals and interests. Then she provides them with methods and resources to help them find the right job.

English is the most widely used language in the history of our planet. One in every seven human beings can speak it. More than half of the world’s books and three quarters of international mail are in English. Of all languages, English has the largest vocabulary — perhaps as many as two million words.
However, let’s face it: English is a crazy language. There is no egg in an eggplant, neither pine nor apple in a pineapple and no ham in a hamburger. Sweet-meats are candy, while sweetbreads, which aren’t sweet, are meat.
We take English for granted. But when we explore its paradoxes (探讨它的矛盾), we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square, public bathrooms have no baths in them.
And why is it that a writer writes, but fingers don’t fing, grocers don’t groce, and hammers don’t ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, shouldn’t the plural of booth be beeth? One goose, two geese — so one moose, two meese?
How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? How can overlook and oversee be opposites, while quite a lot and quite a few are alike? How can the weather be hot as hell one day and cold as hell the next?
English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects (反映) the creativity of human beings. That’s why, when stars are out, they are visible (能看见的); but when the lights are out, they are invisible. And why, when I wind up my watch, I start it; but when I wind up this essay, I end it.
71. According to the passage ______.
A. sweet-meats and sweetbreads are different things
B. there should be egg in an eggplant
C. pineapples are the apples on the pine tree
D. boxing rings should be round
72. Which of the following is the correct plural?
A. Beeth. B. Geese. C. Meese. D. Tooth.
73. Which of the following includes two items which have the similar meaning?
A. A wise man and a wise guy.
B. Overlook and oversee.
C. Quite a lot and quite a few.
D. Hot as hell and cold as hell.
74. The underlined words “wind up” in the last paragraph probably mean “______”.
A. blow B. roll up C. get hurt D. finish
75. Through the many paradoxes in the English language, the writer wants to show that human beings are ______.
A. clever B. crazy C. lazy D. ll

A 对.
