山不一定要高，有了仙人就著名了。水不一定要深，有了龙就灵异了。这虽是简陋的房子，只是我的品德美好（就不感到简陋了）。青苔碧绿，长到台阶上，草色青葱，映入帘子中。与我谈笑的是博学的人，往来的没有不懂学问的人。可以弹奏朴素的古琴，阅读珍贵的佛经。没有嘈杂的音乐扰乱两耳，没有官府公文劳累身心。它好比南阳诸葛亮的茅庐，西蜀扬子云的玄亭。孔子说：“有什么简陋的呢？”
爱莲说
水陆草木之花，可爱者甚蕃。晋陶渊明独爱菊；自李唐来，世人盛爱牡丹；予独爱莲之出淤泥而不染，濯清涟而不妖，中通外直，不蔓不枝，香远益清，亭亭静植，可远观而不可亵玩焉。予谓菊，花之隐逸者也；牡丹，花之富贵者也；莲，花之君子者也。噫！菊之爱，陶后鲜有闻；莲之爱，同予者何人；牡丹之爱，宜乎众矣。
译文：
爱莲说 水上，陆上各种草和木的花，可爱的非常多。晋朝陶渊明唯独喜爱菊花。从唐朝以来世人的人们非常喜爱牡丹。我唯独喜爱莲花，它从污泥中长出来，却不受到污染，在清水里洗涤过但是不显得妖媚，它的茎中间贯通，外形挺直，不牵牵连连，不枝枝节节的，香气远播，更加清香，笔直地洁净地立在那里，可以远远地观赏但是不能贴近去轻慢地玩弄啊
