● 描繪性形容詞主要用來描繪大、小、新舊、顏色、質量等。
● 限定性形容詞主要版用來限權定所修飾詞的數量、距離及范圍所屬等。

限定性形容詞，或稱限定詞（Determinatives），對它所修飾的名詞（主體詞）起某種限定的作用，即決定在3種情況中屬於哪一種：

a）可數名詞——單數，b）可數名詞——復數，還是c）不可數名詞。換句話說，它必須與主體詞在是否可數，及是單數還是復數上一致。某一特定的限定詞，其主體詞只能是單數可數名詞，如 this book；另一限定詞只能和一復數可數名詞一起用，如these books；再一種限定詞只能用來修飾不可數名詞，如much ink．第四種可以和任何名詞連用，如 some book，some books，some ink．
