NOTHING IN THE WORLD IS ABSOLUTE. Everything is relative, cultural difference being no exception. Culture, as the total pattern of human behavior and its procts, oversteps geographical limits and historical conditions in many ways, and it is characterized by its strong penetrativeness and fusibility.
The advancement of the globalized economy and the rapidity and ease of modern communication, transportation, and mass media have resulted in an ever increasing exchange between cultures, unprecedented in scale, scope, and speed. Consequently, an increase in universality and a rection in difference between cultures is an inevitable trend. It is no surprise to see phenomena characteristic of one culture existing in another. As a result, some people even fear that the world will become a ll place when all the different nationalities behave exactly alike.
Nevertheless, the 「cultural sediment」 formed through long-range accumulation is not to be easily removed, and the cultural tradition handed down from generation to generation shows great consistency and continuity. The cultures of different regions and nations still have their own distinctive peculiarities, and therefore significance still needs to be attached to the study of the indivialities of different cultures against the background of their universality
㈣ 高中英語作文 談談你對現代中學生慶祝外來節日的看法 帶翻譯
Nowadys, many middle school students like celebrating Western festivals, such as Christmas and April Fool』 Day.
In my opinion, celebrating Western festivals is a good way for middle school students to understand more about Western culture. At the same time, many Western festivals are very interesting.
However, there are also some disadvantages of celebrating Western festivals. For example, some students simply do it because Western festivals are popular among young people. In fact, they know nothing about the history of Western festivals. In some cases, students don』t want to celebrate our own traditional festivals because they think that traditional Chinese festivals are out of date.
I think we can combine them in a proper way.

Love our Mothers On Mother』s Day, the author found it hard to say 「I love you」 to his mother. However, thinking of the kindness of his mother, he was determined to give her an unexpected card with love.(34 words) What the writer did this time is very tiful. In my opinion, boys can show their respect to their parents as well as girls. They both can express their appreciation to them, because, after all, each parent has paid out so much for their children』s growth.
To celebrate Mother』s Day this year, I bought a bunch of pretty flowers with a card on it, reading, 「You are the best mom that a daughter has ever had. I love you, Mum!」 From now on, to express my love to my mother, I am going to do more housework , cooking, washing, cleaning and shopping, which seems to be endless. By doing these, I will come to realize that, as a matter of fact, mum is very toilsome(辛苦的)all the time. (128 words)

Nowdays, western holidays such as Valentine's day,Christmas are more and more popular in China while our own traditional holidays are being ignored.
The phenomenon is caused by many reasons.First of all, with the development of economy, our country have more chances to communicate with other countries.Secondly, triditional holidays are familiar to our people, and we are interested in these fresh holidays. At last, the way of expressing our emotions in western holidays is obvious as well as convenient. For example,Qiqiao festival and Valentine's day are both the festival for sweethearts, but there is no doubt that Valentine's day is more fasinating to sweethearts than Qiqiao festival.
However,at no time can we forget our own festival holidays. These triditional holidays are our culture and our root. Thus, whenever and wherever we are,we can enjoy western holidays, but we aren't supposed to ignore our traditional holidays.

中國的鬼節
Hungry Ghost Festival
The 14th and 15th of the seventh lunar month
Much like Western culture's Halloween, some Eastern cultures celebrate a Fall festival where they believe the gates of hell are thrown open, releasing hungry ghosts to wander the earth in search of food and taking revenge upon those who wronged them in life. This month-long festival is known as the Hungry Ghost Festival and takes place ring the 7th lunar month.
Unlike other celebrations of the dead in Eastern cultures that seek to honor dead ancestors, the Hungry Ghost Festival seeks to pacify the hungry ghosts, the ghosts of strangers and the un-cared-for dead. These are the ghosts of those who died by their own hands, by accidents, by drowning or hanging who have been denied entry into heaven. Angry because they are forced to dwell in hell without food or comfort, when released, they search for souls to take their place in misery.
To Taoists(道教徒) and Buddhists(佛教徒), these evil spirits are not to be taken lightly. They are most active at night and can take many forms including: snakes, moths(蛾), birds, foxes, wolves, and tigers. They can even appear as beautiful men or women to sece the living. When they possess an indivial by entering the body they cause illness and mental disorders.
Throughout this month, to keep the angry spirits amused, people stage street operas and other forms of public entertainment. In the past, people did not view the street operas as they were performed only for ghosts. Other rituals(典禮,儀式)are performed to help souls enter into heaven. Taoists do their best to avoid late nights away from these amusements and rituals to steer clear of the evil spirits. To appease these wandering spirits, Buddhists and Taoists burn bundles of joss sticks, paper hell money, food, and other offerings by the roadside. Communities along rivers or near the sea float lanterns in the shape of the lotus or carved from fruit or gourds in the water to guide them away from their homes. They follow the lanterns from the river bank or sea shore till they can no longer be seen. This is done to redeem the soul of those who died by drowning.
The most important days of this month are the 14th and 15th, the days of the great feasts. On the 14th, a great feast would be held to honor family ancestors. Prayers and offerings would be made at family altars. On the following night, the 15th, they would feast for the hungry ghosts. Held outside under the full moon, these feasts feed the evil spirits so that they will leave the living alone and bribe(賄賂) the ancestors for luck with money and the harvest.
