I need to gain independence from my parents.I assume you mean your parents would claim you as a dependent so they get a tax break and you can stay on their health insurance. If you are not getting any monetary support then you should consider not being a dependent. As a full time college student you get health services through the university health care system. But check out your school benefits first. It is not full blown health insurance however. You can get very good low cost plans through the school sometimes. Also whatever income you do have would most likely be very low and you'd pay no taxes and you could even qualify for loans or even food stamps if you wanted.
