運用事物之間的對比，說明事物的本質和特徵。是說明文常用的方法之一版。也叫比較說明權。其特點是利用事物之間既互相聯系又互相區別的特點，使讀者准確、深刻地認識事物。對比說明往往採用橫比和縱比兩種。橫比，是用與說明對象同類或不同類的事物來進行比較。縱比，是同一事物在不同時期的情況對比。
