在初中的歷史課上就學過：中國的歷史從古代到現代經歷了一個開口向上的拋物線。從唐朝的開元盛世到清朝的閉關鎖國；後來招致歐洲列強、日本美國的入侵；再到綜合國力直逼發達國家的現代中國。而在這個大起大落的過程中，中國人失掉了自信力了嗎？
這是一個非常「大」的問題，可能現在世界上最精英的社會學家也難以回答。而魯迅先生卻以此為題，而且說的頭頭是道、字字在理，真不愧為名家之作。
以魯迅先生的觀點，中國人失掉自信力了嗎？是的，但又不全是。所謂「自信」與「自欺」，區別就在於「信」的是真切實際的還是虛無縹緲的東西。在人生的旅途中，一次考試的失利、一次面試的失敗、甚至一個鄙夷的眼神都會使我們失去自信力。可以毫不誇張地這樣說：幾乎所有的人都曾經失去過自信力。那麼為什麼這個世界會存在不同的等級、不同的階層呢？原因在於有的人重新找回了「自信」；而剩下的人則找到了「自欺」。正如當年的中國——信過「地」和「物」，信過「國聯」，卻從來沒有信過「自己」。失去了自信力之後，居然迷信於「國聯」的力量，又失去了他信力。最終導致了「求神拜佛，懷古傷今」，徹底步入「自欺」的深淵之中。好在一代一代「埋頭苦幹、拚命硬幹、為民請命、捨身求法」的偉人們前赴後繼、鍥而不舍地又把中國給拉了出來。而這些偉大的人們，就是魯迅先生筆下的「中國的脊樑」。
正是這些有恩於中國的偉人們，有的得以名垂青史，為後人所瞻仰。而更多的則被黑暗徹底吞沒，從這個世上消失了。他們曾經存在過的唯一證據，就是中國的黑暗越來越少，而光明照亮的角落越來越多了。
這些民族的筋骨、國家的脊樑是有自信力的。他們的自信和某些人整日生活在頹廢之中、千方百計蒙騙自己形成了鮮明的對比。我們的國家之所以能有今天的強盛，和他們的捨生忘死、他們的為民請命是分不開的。
任長霞、焦裕祿、雷鋒……一個個名字，熟悉而響亮。他們共同築成了新時代的長城，讓每一個中國人都生活在自信而不是自欺之中。他們的精神鼓勵著我們、鞭策著我們，從某種程度上來說，保護著我們，伴隨著每一代中國孩子一起長大，一起成熟，一起努力奮斗著，為了證明一句話——中國人沒有失掉自信！
