一、自我
讓正在成長中的初中生寫自我，寫什麼呢?綜觀各地有關這方面的命題，主要集中在兩個方面：一是寫如何自強、自信，二是寫自己的成長過程。這不僅切合中學生的實際，也具有積極的引導作用。
自信是一個人成才的重要因素。有位名人說過，一個人的失敗，其實是自信的喪失。關於自信，人們做過許多實驗。美國哈佛大學一教授，從學校隨便找了一百名學生和三名教師，把他們組成三個班，說他們是全校最好師生的組合。一年後這三個班的考試成績果然居全校之首。還有一位心理學家做過這樣一個實驗：從一班大學生中找了一個被認為最愚笨，最不招人喜歡的姑娘，要求同學們改變對她的看法，讓大家向她獻殷勤，假作真地認為她是最漂亮最聰慧的姑娘。不到～年，這姑娘果然出落得很好，連她的舉止也跟從前判若兩人。這些都證明，樹立一個人的自信，對於他的發育成長，乃至以後的成就具有多麼重要的作用。
成長，主要是指思想、心理的成熟和能力的增強。成長過程實際就是一個戰勝自我的過程，怎樣甩掉幼稚無知，怎樣克服自卑、膽怯，怎樣戰勝懶惰、馬虎等等。要讓這個變化明顯，就要把變化前後的情況寫充分。
二、家人、家事
對於十幾歲的初中同學來說，接觸最多的人是自己的家庭成員，父親、母親、爺爺、奶奶等。命題作文，特別是考試作文，因為要考慮到每個考生都有內容可寫，通常只要求寫父母，而寫母親的命題又占絕大多數，如《母愛》、《我和我的母親》等。近兩年有些話題作文並沒有限定寫父、母，例如「發現」、「書」等，有不少同學也把話題扯到父、母身上來，因為我們熟悉父母，有內容可寫。
學寫這類作文，可參考課本里朱自清的《背影》(寫父親)、朱德《回憶我的母親》(寫母親)。
寫父母當然會寫到父母公而忘私的品格，父母對自己的教誨。例如，星期天，當教師的母親要帶學生去參加某些活動，而不能照顧自己；賣冰棍的老人多找了自己錢，自以為沾了便宜，反而受到母親的責備。這些都應當寫，但是光寫這些還不夠。成功的作文，大都能寫出兩代人的差異和矛盾。子女對於父母一些疼愛他們的做法，常常感到迂腐、好笑，對於給他們的諄諄教誨，常常感到蘿嗦、厭煩，甚至有的把父母的嚴格要求，誤解為不夠疼愛，等等。誤解一旦被解除，就會激發出感人的親情。
寫事的作文，寫家事也占很大比重。家庭是社會的細胞，寫家庭生活小事，要反映時代特色和帶有普遍意義的社會問題。例如《漫談家事》中媽媽、姐姐的變化，都鮮明地反映了時代特色。 、
家庭問題是很復雜的，俗話說「清官難斷家務事」，夫妻不和，婆媳矛盾，常常很難簡單地說清誰對誰錯。能夠說清的，例如父母不和是因為父親嗜賭，應當有鮮明的傾向，批評父親；如果說不清原因，就要避難就易，改變角度，例如從對兒女的生活、學習和身心健康造成的影響來寫。這樣寫會更顯得符合青少年的實際。
三、老師、同學
除了家人，同學們接觸最多的人是老師和同學。寫老師和同學不難，但寫好寫出特色來卻不易，因為千千萬萬考生有著大同小異的學校生活。那麼，怎祥才能寫好呢?
這類作文寫得好的大致有這樣兩個特點。
一是寫出新的時代特點、新的教育思想在師生身上的反映。例如，物質生活提高了，審美觀念轉變了，有的男老師打了紅領帶，女老師穿了白色連衣裙，留著瀑布似的長發。內地的學校，有的老師羨慕沿海地區的高工資，丟下學生走了；有的老師卻寧願過艱苦生活，堅定地留下。有的老師拋棄師道尊嚴，和學生建立了亦師亦友的關系，學生勸老師戒煙，老師就真的接受勸告。寫同學，更寫出了一些與家長與老師認識不同的新觀念。
二是要寫出人物的個性，並用一些與眾不同的新鮮事來表現。例如後邊例文《三十五根蠟燭》中的三位同學都很有個性，做事常常與眾不同，但讓人感到真實、可信。
四、讀書、作文
讀書、作文是語文學習的主要內容，所以中考命題無論是否要求寫這方面的內容，不少同學都會往這方面想。
寫讀書、作文，如果只想到語文能力的培養，眼界就窄了。正像一些優秀作文里所說，讀書可以開闊我們的視野，可以凈化我們的心靈；讀書可以排解苦悶，驅除孤獨，可以帶來愉悅。作文是情的感悟，美的升華，可以傾訴內心的委屈，可以抒發美好的願望。總之，讀書和作文可以涉及生活的各個方面，生發許多曲折的故事和豐富的情感。
寫這類作文，既可以向內寫，也可以向外寫。向內寫，就是寫讀了什麼好書，受了什麼影響，或者有什麼感想、認識；怎樣學習寫作，產生興趣，提高了寫作能力等等。向外寫，就是重點不寫讀、寫內容本身，而寫其他。如購書、借書的故事，讀書的情趣，寫作投稿的苦與樂等等。
和其他類作文一樣，此類文章也要注意內容的新穎。寫讀書，如果命題沒限制，最好寫其他考生很少讀的書；寫作文，也盡量寫出其特點，少有的經歷和體驗。
五、課余、愛好
課余是一個廣闊的天地，既包括上課之外在學校里的活動，也包括放學後和節假日在社會上的活動。有集體的，也有個人的。可能和同學在一起，也可能和家人、親戚、朋友在一起。可以是讀書、彈琴、打球，也可以是參觀旅遊，探親訪友。因為課餘生活豐富多彩，寫課餘生活要注意題材的獨特性，以題材新穎取勝。要選取那些我有人無的題材，例如後邊例文中的去廣播電台做社會調查，自己上街擺攤賣書，星期天自己模擬當市長視察當交警等等。
在正課學習之餘，人人都有自己的愛好。有的愛畫畫，有的愛集郵，也有的愛上網。寫愛好一定得寫自己真正的愛好，切不可因為考慮什麼更有積極意義，而寫自己並不非常熱愛的東西。真正熱愛的，才真正熟悉，才真正有感情，才真正，解它的意義，寫出來才會讓別人受影響，長見識。從後邊例文中的愛集郵、愛籃球，都可以看出作者是真正的愛好者。
寫課餘生活要寫出情趣。有的作文題目就標出了這一點，如《我的興趣——彈古箏》。因為課余不像課內，課內的知識技能是必備的基礎，不論有沒有興趣，都必須學習。課余活動，應當發展同學的愛好和特長，一般說都應當是有興趣的，要把其中的樂趣寫出來，才好讓不了解的人了解，讓不愛好的人也來愛好。後邊舉的一些例文，大都做到了這一點。
六、第一次
人的一生，始終處於了解、適應、改造客觀世界的過程，所以會有許許多多的「第一次」，在青少年時期就更多一些，如第一次自己穿衣服，第一次進學校，第一次坐火車，第一次看見大海，第一次做飯，第一次做檢討，第一次戴上團徽，第一次得到稿費，第一次失眠，第一次接到男同學的信，等等。有見聞，有經歷，也有感受。「第一次」新鮮，留下的印象深刻，因此作文題目常有《第一次_______》這類形式。
那麼，怎樣才能寫好這類作文呢? 一般說，要注意這樣幾點：
(1)要抓住第一印象或第一感受，進行分析，確立中心思想。在復雜紛紜的客觀事物中，首先給你突出印象的，往往就是事物的特點；使你受到感動的地方，寫出來才可能感動人。作家冰心寫文章就常常從這一點人手。她把這第一印象、第一感受叫做「初念」，她的一些佳作就是從「初念」入手寫成的。我們作文也可以抓「初念」，你第一次戴上團徽是怎樣的心情，什麼時候心情最激動，你看到想到了哪些才熱淚盈眶。緊緊抓住這些，發掘它的意義，寫出來就會感人。
(2)要寫出怎樣克服困難。「萬事開頭難」，去做從未做過的事，常常會感到困難，第一次做飯會把飯做糊，第一次得了稿費不知該怎麼花，第一次做檢討張不開嘴，第一次接到男同學的信不知該怎麼辦，等等。人們在第一次做某件事時，常常需要克服精神上和實際經驗、能力上的困難，要注意把這些寫出來，才有教育意義。
(3)要注意對比。也就是說要和這「第一次」以前的情況對比。例如《我第一次做檢討》，就寫了以前的情況，正因為作者是個好學生，是班長，從沒做過檢討，這次才暴露出從未暴露過的問題，才會使自己受到震動和教育。再如寫第一次做飯，正因為過去總是衣來伸手，飯來張口，所以當大人不在自己想做飯吃時，才會鬧出種種笑話。
最後還需要注意，「第一次」對於自己來說都是新鮮的，但對於讀者來說就未必新鮮，第一次做飯之類的事，同學們就寫的比較多。所以寫「第一次」也要注意題材的新鮮，《我第一次接到男同學的信》的成功，首先得益於題材敢闖「禁區」。
七、心聲、願望
這一組文章都是寫自己的想法的。這些想法很正確，願望很合理，但是由於種種原因卻不能變為現實。寫這類文章，首先得把這個矛盾寫出來，才能打動讀者。例如《心願》無非是想和老師談談話，得到老師的一點指導。這願望太簡單、太平常了，可是「應試教育」逼得老師只關心那些升學有望的學生，這位同學的願望變成了不能實現的奢望，這也是突出的矛盾。想將來當醫生、當科學家，自然不會有人限制，但現在還不行，現在必須學習好，打好文化基礎，這也是矛盾。
這類作文又多是記敘文，不能只靠直接議論來表達自己的想法，而必須找到恰當的形象的表現形式。《心願》生動地描繪了三個片斷，同學一個個被老師叫去個別輔導，「面授機宜」，老師只關心那些學習好的同學，而把她冷落在一旁；她鼓足勇氣走進老師辦公室，老師和其他同學談笑風生，卻沒有顧到她；在晚自習時，老師向她走來，她認為老師來找她了，「心怦怦直跳」，「她忽地從坐位上彈了起來」，卻原來不是找她，而是問她的同學為什麼沒來上課。這三次對比，一次比一次加深，最後推向了高潮。寫志願、理想一類的作文，容易犯空泛的毛病，較好的作文很少見；寫得比較好的，都是想像作文，也就是通過想像，寫許多年以後，自己做了什麼事，來表達自己的理想。例如10年後自己做了科學家、軍事家，或者當了人民教師等等。這樣寫可以描繪具體的人和事，就表現得形象、生動。
八、感受、體驗、啟示
這一組作文寫的都是接觸外界事物受到的影響，有的是切身的感受和體驗，有的是認識上的領悟。這些都是人生的寶貴經驗，寫出來可以給讀者以啟發。
由於每個人的生活經歷不同，生活態度不同，心理承受能力不同，對於同一件事可能會有不同的感受。例如，面對貧困，有的同學自卑、苦惱，有的同學卻能感到貧困也有好處，能夠安貧樂學。寫這類作文，要在真實的基礎上，選擇個人獨特的更有積極意義的感受，給讀者以好的影響。
寫這類作文，往往需要細致的心理描寫，把真實、細致的心理活動寫出來，讓讀者產生共鳴，更好地理解你的感受和體驗。
這類作文大多有敘有議，敘是感悟產生的事實基礎，要寫得具體、充分，議是感悟得出的結論，要寫得精要。留心一下後面的幾篇例文，大都具有這樣的特點。
九、回憶、惜別
回憶性的記敘文，所寫的內容都是作者的親身經歷或見聞，因此一般都用第一人稱。
回憶什麼人什麼事都可以，在選材上有非常廣闊的天地。但是回憶的內容一定曾經深深打動過作者。例如《太陽升起的方向》中所寫的那次國旗下的演講，是自己由懦弱自卑到勇敢自信的轉折點，怎麼會忘記呢?
回憶的事大都是過去相當長的一段時問了，剛剛發生的或者過去不久的事，一般不用回憶的形式寫。例如《我在笑容里為你祝福》一開頭就說「三年了」．《太陽升起的方向》也在頭一段說「面對此景，我不禁又想起兒時的自己」。
寫回憶文章，一般都需要有引起回憶的事物，也就是人們常說的「睹物思人」「觸景生情」。《太陽升起的方向》是觸景——旭日下盛開的向日葵。這種引起回憶的事物，最好能和打動自己的中心事件相關，只有這樣才顯得自然。
惜別，就是捨不得分別，不願分別，按說寫的是眼前的事。可是為什麼那麼留戀、不願意分別呢?因為在過去的一段時間里，和老師、同學，或者母校建屯了深厚的感情。說起這些來又必然會回憶起許多往事，而這些往事又都是親身經歷的，並且曾經深深地感動過作者。從這些地方看惜別與回憶的寫法又是相通的。可參看例文《我在笑容里為你祝福》，體會惜別與回憶的異同。
十、社會見聞
後面一組作文，寫的都是學校和家庭以外的人和事。因為初中生除了學校和家庭以外，接觸社會的機會不多，所以中考命題限定寫社會見聞的很少，限定社會的如「我生活的地方」「他(她)是個普普通通的人」等。而有些題目，特別是近兩年的話題作文，可寫的范圍很廣，一些同學就寫了學校家庭以外的人和事，拓寬視野，以題材新穎取勝。
作文的材料來自兩個渠道，一是親身經歷和見聞；二是書報資料和其他新聞媒體。寫學校和家庭的事，多取自前者；寫社會見聞，則多取自後者。後面的例文《生命之歌》、《兩岸三地一家親》的題材顯然取自報刊。這就要求我們平時看報、看電視，多注意那些感人的人和事，並適當記憶，作些分析。力爭寫得新穎，而不是人雲亦雲。對於初中生來說。親身的社會見聞雖然不多，但不可忽視，這方面的題材常會有獨特性，寫出來以新穎見長，《村邊有一條小河》、《他是個普普通通的人》都有這方面的長處。 、
寫社會見聞的作文，有一類是寫一個地方的，如《家鄉變了》等。寫這類文章要注意這樣幾點：(1)寫一個地區的概貌，取材不宜單一，通常要寫到自然風貌、歷史地理、風土人情等。(2)每個地區都有自己的特點，城市與農村不同，山區和水鄉不同，應當把當地的特點寫出來。(3)寫一個地區，應當主要寫今天，反映新事物新面貌，但為了說明變化，又要寫過去。因此常採用今昔對比的手法。(4)為了便於表現比較寬的面，多用橫向結構，也就是採用空間順序。後面的例文《家鄉變了》、《變了》就都是這樣安排的，而且常採用首同排段的形式，寫天津，用了「瞧……」「瞧……」「瞧……」；寫上海用了「你看……」「你看……」「你再看……」這樣便於組織材料，層次也顯得清楚。
十一、思辨類
近兩年，一方面，由於學校加強了人文教育、道德修養教育，初中同學也開始較多地思考社會人生的許多大問題。諸如人為什麼活著，什麼是幸福，什麼是責任，誠信的重要，平凡的意義，寬容的價值，為什麼要互相關愛，怎樣辯證地看問題，等等。另一方面，受高考作文的影響，一些地區的中考也出話題作文。開闊了比較寬泛的議論空間。因此，盡管命題要求「自選文體」，寫議論文的同學也比過去多了起來。
思辨，就是對問題進行思考辨析。寫好這類作文要有兩點基礎：一是有較為廣博的知識。從後面的幾篇作文就可以看出，這些同學平時涉獵廣泛，或文學，或歷史，古今中外，知道的事情不少。二是有良好的思考習慣。平時多思善疑，才會比別人想得多，想得深。如果自覺這兩方面的基礎不牢，最好不寫這類作文，改換別的文體。
寫好這類作文，在觀點鮮明的同時，要防止片面性，不要把某些說法絕對化。自己還沒有想得很清楚的問題，也可以留給讀者思考。
十二、一事一議
「一事一議」，是議論文寫作的一種形式，就是對一件事情發表自己的看法。當然得就事論理，說出一個具有普遍意義的道理來。因為是從一件事說起，具體抓得住，所以寫起來比較容易。中考議論文，以「一事一議」最為常見。
「一事一議」中的「事」含義比較寬，可以是生活中的一件事、一種現象，也可以是文字記載的某一材料。
「一事一議」的中考命題，一般都提供「事」，但也有不提供的，例如1990年石家莊市中考作文題《我真看不慣這件事》，就沒有提供事，考生得自己選事，發表議論。不論命題提供了事，還是沒有提供事，「議」都要有現實針對性。一件事可以有不同的著眼點，我們的著眼點要力求最有教育意義。
在寫法上，「一事一議」的文章都要敘議結合。先要敘事，敘事要力求概括，怎麼「敘」還要考慮「議」的需要。議論要從所敘的事中引出，但要就事論理，讓文章所說的道理具有更普遍的意義。例如，管住自己沒有亂丟垃圾，本來是一件保護環境的事，如果從思想修養的層面著眼，就是如何做人的大問題了。「敘」在「議」前，但不一定都放在開頭。「議」是只就給的「事」，還是可以再聯系其他同類的事，每篇文章都應視具體情況而定。
近兩年，由於各地命題普遍對體裁的要求放寬，明確要求寫議論文「一事一議」的不多了，而是要求以所給之「事」引出話題作文。既然是話題，在寫法上就不一定再提及所給之「事」，而只就相關話題發表議論。可注意一下2003年的幾篇作文與過去「一事一議」的不同。
十三、讀後感
「讀後感」是在閱讀了書籍文章之後寫出自己的感想的一種文章。
這里所說的「讀」含義很廣，可以讀一本書、一篇文章，也可以讀幾本書、幾篇文章；可以讀文字，也可以看圖畫。中學課本里就有要求看了漫畫寫讀後感的練習。讀的對象都是書面的，看戲看電視看電影不能算讀了，只能是「觀看」，但是「觀後感」的寫法和「讀後感」的寫法基本相同，通常都是並在一起談，不再單談「觀後感」。
寫讀後感，閱讀是基礎。必須先認真閱讀，透徹地理解原文，領悟其中的道理，然後才能展開聯想，引出自己的見解。在閱讀時引出的想法越多，越有選擇的餘地。閱讀時的想法，有的是由原文的中心引出的，有的是由原文的某一局部引出的。社會上的文章從哪裡引出感想的都有，同學們初學寫作，最好多注意原文的中心思想。
認真讀過原文之後，感想可能不只一點，那麼選哪一點來作寫作的中心呢?首先要考慮，哪一點有現實針對性，對讀者有更大的教育意義；其次也要考慮一下自己在哪一方面有較多的材料儲備，便於展開寫作。後邊介紹的幾篇例文，《讀(中國的大車，我們拉)有感》等，對於青年學生來說，都有很強的針對性。
在闡發自己的感想時，是只就原文的材料來寫，還是需要引進其他材料呢?兩種做法都可以。後邊的例文中兩種情況都有。如果只就原文材料來寫，必須對原文挖掘得深刻；如果還引進其他同類的材料，則要注意材料的新鮮程度。值得注意的是，不管引進多少材料，最後都要回到原文上去，切不可做斷線風箏，最後看不出與「讀」有什麼關系。
讀後感的命題，有的給出文章，給的文章如果篇幅長，又常常和閱讀試題相結合；有的不給文章，可自由選擇自己讀過的作品來寫。後邊例文中涉及的《中國的大車，我們拉》、《變形記》、《花季·雨季》，就屬於自選作品。不限作品的，容易被宿構。事先有準備和沒有準備，情況就會有很大不同，因此不論作品能不能自選，事先的准備是不可缺少的。
隨著話題作文的出現和對文體要求的放寬，寫讀書(文)後的感想，也不一定非寫議論文了。其實，用詩歌發表讀後感想的，自古就有。不論用哪種體裁，如果平時沒有練習，應考時最好不要貿然使用。
