審題，是考生接觸作文題後首先跨出的第一步，至關重要。審題正確，所寫文章符合題旨，則高分有望；審題有誤，下筆偏離題意，則全盤皆輸，用「失之毫釐，謬以千里」來形容並不誇張。審題要做到「瞄準靶心，命中十環」，必須抓住下列四點。
掃描信息
這是指對作文試題各部分的字句作仔細審讀、揣摩，正確、全面地理解其含義，不偏不漏不折不扣地按要求作文。掃描的重點有四個：人稱、動詞（「選取」、「聯系」、「結合」等）、特殊要求、標點（如省略號）。南通市中考作文《合作》，有兩篇作文令閱卷老師深感可惜。一篇作文的大意是外星人來到地球，「我」和外星人「合作」解決了他們的難題，想像豐富，描寫生動；另一篇是議論文，中心論點是「合作是成功的保證」，作者列舉古今中外四個典型事例，論證有力，語言流暢。但這兩篇文章最後只能被評為三類卷，為什麼？因為這兩名考生沒有仔細掃描提示語中的下列要求：「……請選取你生活中的一段經歷……寫一篇文章，表達自己的真切體驗。」其中「你」（人稱）、「選取」（動詞）、「真切體驗」這三處關鍵詞語都被兩名考生忽略了，按照評分細則，這樣「走題」的文章一般不能進入二類卷。如果第二篇作文的作者能掃描出上述要求，詳寫「我」合作成功的事例，將原文中古今中外的例子壓縮為概述，那文章可能進入一類卷，這種因審題失之於粗而導致「千里之失」的教訓值得我們汲取。
辨析概念
特別是「似同實異」的概念，要通過比較把握各自的內涵，決定取捨。例如某市中考要求以「特長」為話題寫作，有名考生這樣寫：「我」原來對英語沒興趣，成績自然不佳；後來因為經歷了某一件事，認識到學英語的重要，興趣變濃了，考試也獲得了班級第十名。文章細節描寫生動，情感變化過程也寫得細膩，但作者一開始就進入了混淆概念的誤區。「興趣」和「特長」是有聯系但內涵不同的兩個概念，「興趣」可以轉化為「特長」，「有特長」一般也以「有興趣」為前提，但「特長」不等於「興趣」，它是指「人無我有」或是「人少有而我有」的技術和能力。上述病文如要對准話題「特長」，則構思框架必須作如下變動：「後來不僅英語成績提高了，我還嘗試著用英語演課本劇，在全市的文藝匯演上，我還得了特別獎呢！」英語成績全班第十名算不了「特長」，但能用英語演課本劇且獲獎，的確稱得上「特長」，與話題相符，如果立意正確而鮮明，就能獲得高分。
貫穿始終
這是指文章的切入、展開、收攏都要圍繞同一題目展開，中途不能游移不定，甚至隨意轉換。一名考生面對「興趣」話題，擬題「拜拜，我的鋼琴」，寫「我」上小學時在鋼琴世界盪漾，享受愉悅，但到了初中，沉重的負擔逼得「我」與鋼琴「拜拜」……寫至此，文章筆鋒一轉，歷數應試教育之弊端，一口氣寫了300多字。這樣，文章主題由「興趣」轉移為「應試教育」。其實，文章展開至與鋼琴「拜拜」時仍可持續「興趣」話題寫，如寫重負下的希冀，精要地議上幾句教育理念、模式與培養、發展興趣的關系等，這樣就能使文章話題首尾相援，一以貫之。
「准」中求「活」
審題的「准」與「活」不是對立的而是統一的，關鍵是要對題中信息的挖掘。例如，廣州市中考「傾聽」話題，導語中說傾聽「是接受信息的渠道」，「是凈化心靈的藝術」，這就暗示了「傾聽」的對象包括可聽信息和不可聽信息，文學作品、不發聲的物也可作為傾聽對象來寫。
一種體裁
只寫記敘文，好好把記敘文復習好。
兩個原則
1、真實才能動情。真正能打動讀者的，還是那些你親身經歷有真情實感的身邊小事；
2、妙語才能煽情。只有風趣幽默，生動活潑的語言才能讓讀者眼前一亮，讀之使人不斷點頭默嘆。
三字要求
1、穩：寫好事，力求能夠按照記敘文的六要素把事情交代清楚，開頭結章節附註意點題，結尾處要點明中心，穩定的發揮好自己的寫作水平。特別是寫作能力較好的同學，不要強求自己必須寫出「驚世之作」來，考試作文能夠發揮自己80%的寫作水平就很了不起了。
2、細：不要像電視劇情介紹那樣的簡單敘述，中間要加入環境描寫、人物外貌、動作、語言、心理描寫，能力好的同學再來些遠近相襯、動靜相映、側面烘托、環境渲染、五覺描寫，是文章細膩、動人。
3、精：對於一般的同學來說，「精」體現在：（1）選擇自己最拿手的內容；（2）寫出自己最好的字；（3）採用自己最順手的結構（總分結構或順敘方式），力求發揮好自己的水平。對於寫作能力較好的同學來說，「精」應體現在：（1）選擇較有新意的、又是自己有把握寫好的內容；（2）有漂亮的書寫；（3）精心的安排好開頭和結尾，適當的採用倒敘、襯托、聯想、象徵、描寫、抒情、以小見大、欲揚先抑、渲染氣氛、借景抒情、托物喻志、以物喻人的方法方式結構文章；（4）採用適當的修辭手法，特別是運用比喻、反復、排比、反問等手法，恰當的運用成語、引用格言名句，增添文采。
四個流程（保住基本分）
1、審清題意：千萬注意，題意審不好，來個文不對題，哪就……應該先花2－3分鍾看看作文題，然後在開始答基礎知識題目。
2、立好中心：至少指導自己想說什麼，是喜歡、是厭惡？是感動、是反對？是快樂，是痛苦？是哲理、是深情？是贊揚、是批評？…………用一句話把它寫在草稿紙上。
3、選好材料：符合題目要求的、自己最熟悉的、能夠寫好的事。
4、寫好提綱：（1）用一句話寫出中心內容和主題；（2）分清開頭、中間、結尾各寫什麼？（3）打好開頭、結尾的細稿，以及每段的開頭句。
接下來就是在試卷里寫作文啦，要力求一氣呵成，只要提綱和開頭、結尾、段落開頭的稿子打得好，一氣呵成事不難做到的，思路順暢了20分鍾就可以把作文寫好。
五項技巧（贏得感情分）
1、有一個靈活的頭腦：造句法、篩選法、換題法。
2、有一張可愛的臉蛋：書寫要工整，自己的字能夠寫多好就必須寫多好，不得使用塗改液，不得隨意修改，特別是開頭、結尾和段落的開頭句，不能修改。
3、有一雙閃亮的眼睛：好的文題等於成功了一半。
4、有一身漂亮的衣裝：（1）一個最拿手的題材（適合自己）；（2）一個好故事（好布料）；（3）一個好結構（好設計）；（4）一口流暢、優美的語言（好花紋、好色彩）。
5、有幾件精美的飾品：（1）倒敘、描寫、引用開頭（好發型）（2）結尾：議論反問式、含蓄餘味式、贊美抒情式、哲理深思式、名言點睛式、聯想做夢式、決心號召式（名鞋）；（3）名言名句名作的恰好點綴（鑽石喲）；（4）用景物描寫渲染氣氛（如夢的紗巾）。
六個大忌（莫丟冤枉分）
一忌潦草塗改：書寫要端正，千萬別連文題都改，只改明顯的錯別字，將錯就錯，能夠不改的就不改。
二忌過短過長：字數一定要足，字數不足，寫得再好也很難及格；字數不能太多，不要超出試卷中的作文紙，萬般無奈之下，也只能在2行以內。
三忌開頭議論：還不如開門見山、直接點題開頭的好，能來點環境描寫，就先來點描寫。
四忌分段太少：4－6段為好，千萬別少於3段。
五忌文不對題：不說也知道會有什麼後果。
六忌選材太俗：別總是玩呀、救落水兒童呀、貓啊狗啊……
七隆重忌一點，千萬別把人寫死了，也不能把人寫成癌症。
