《高級英語》第三版由張漢熙主編,於1980年由商務印書館出版,已經走過了三十年的歷程,對於一本教科書來說,壽命可算是長的,但至今仍有旺盛的生命力,因為它經過了兩次修訂,即兩次吐故納新:1995年由外研社出版修訂版;2011年外研社出版了第三版。
張漢熙教授在主編《高級英語》中做出了特別重要的貢獻。張漢熙於1921年出生印度,母親為印度人,父親是中國人。1942年畢業於印度加爾各答大學(註:加爾各答大學創建於1857年,是印度3所歷史最悠久、規模最大的綜合性大學之一。被NAAC評價為五星級大學。2005年,加爾各答大學在Times評出的全球最佳人文大學中排名第39位)。1948年回國執教。曾在輔仁大學任教,解放後分到華北革大研究院,後調到北京外國語學院任教。70年代末,系裡決定把多年選用的高年級精讀教材編輯成書,這個任務交給 張漢熙老師。他的確是最佳人選,不僅因為他一直教授此課,積累了豐富寶貴的教學經驗,而且他精通英語,有外國專家的優勢。他是編寫這樣一本教材的最佳人選,他具備獨特的資格:精通英語,母語為英語;數十年的教育生涯全部貢獻給高年級閱讀和寫作的教學,積累了豐富寶貴的教學經驗。也就是說,他既具備一位中國教師長期從事第一線教學經驗,又具備一位母語為外語的外國專家的英語水準。此外,他的聰明才智、准確的判斷力和驚人的記憶力在編寫此書中發揮了至關重要的作用。《高級英語》以及修訂版是他一生教學的結晶。當我閱讀周燕主編的《用精神行走的人》時,我注意到比我年長、我尊重的許多老師在談到他們如何學習英語時提到了張漢熙教授,他們無一例外地對他的英語水平贊嘆佩服,連加拿大專家伊莎白都說,張漢熙是真正的學者。
1995年由外研社出版的修訂版(張漢熙主編,王立禮編)繼續發揚了第一版的優點,更加強調貫徹文化教學與人文關懷的宗旨。所新增的課文比較新,題材方面更加重視體現當代人們所關注的重大問題,如環境保護,這在當時的精讀課文是極少的,說明新課文的選擇有前瞻性。修訂版的最重大的變化是增加了教師用書,提供了補充背景資料,課文難點詳解,練習答案,使得此套教科書更加user-friendly.
由於張漢熙教師已於1999年去世,此次修訂《高級英語》的重任落在了我的肩上,令我誠惶誠恐,壓力很大,但我決心盡自己最大的努力,不辱使命,本著對主編負責,對出版社負責,尤其是對讀者負責的態度修訂了此書。2011年夏第三版出版,受到了出版社和讀者的肯定。

7. 自學高級英語(張漢熙主編)第三版,有什麼好的建議嗎
宋倩同學,我覺得你是不是有點走入誤區了。英語水平的提高靠的是大量泛讀,對咱們吃這碗專業飯的來說更得注意題材的廣泛,張漢熙的《高級英語》本身就涉及許多方面的內容。老實說這套教材的確有一定難度,如果把它比作一個島嶼,那我們的泛讀量就得多到淹沒它,然後這個難度等高線上的其它教材也就基本不在話下了。舉例來說,當初我並不知道第一冊第三課的作者是柯林頓政府的副總統,也不知道那篇課文只是節選,直到後來在過期的National Geographic中看到了戈爾的全文才反應過來,如果再順勢多了解一些這位著名環保人士的思想觀念或其它文章顯然會更好地幫助你理解課文。 我說的誤區就是,英語水平的提高是個長期緩慢的過程。往往是某天翻開以前覺得很難的書或文章現在覺得也簡單才意識到自己總算進步了,僅僅讀幾本書效果並不明顯。尤其是,《高級英語》(不管是第幾版)對你來說差不多就是炒剩飯,收獲應該沒有讀全新的材料來得有質感。啃硬骨頭(例如Subject and Structure)當然了不起。不過,以農村包圍城市也是不錯的策略。悠著點兒,別著急,人生苦長,慢慢走唄。以我個人的經驗,英語期刊是非常有價值的泛讀材料,只是不太好找,網上看又很費眼睛(Kindle不知道怎麼樣,我還沒體驗)。上面提到的 National Geographic 是我出差在北京西單圖書大廈門口的書攤上買到的,嶄新的舊雜志。謝謝邀請哦。
