He began to go home. He had eaten no food that day. He began to want food. He came to the apples, and he was glad to take them out of the st and eat them.

給英語單詞編故事的三個方法
對英語單詞進行編故事的方法主要有三個：
一，熟悉元素聯結法。盡量在單詞中找出所有已經熟悉的、而且易於想像的元素，這些元素主要是指字母較少的單詞。
二，字母編碼法。對那些不熟悉的元素（主要是指不能組成單詞的那些字母），則可以樣用預先設定的或臨時設定的編碼來進行轉化。
第三個方法，是指其它各種靈活的方法。只要你能把所有的記憶元素快速緊密地聯結在一起，無論用什麼方法都可以。
一，熟悉元素聯結法：
如果是一個字母比較多的單詞，其中經常會包含一些我們早已熟悉的單詞或詞根，通過把這些熟悉的元素進行想像聯結，就可以輕松地記住這個新的單詞。
例如：
1，hesitate —— 猶豫
「hesitate」這個單詞中包含了三個我們早已非常熟悉的單詞：he（他）、sit（坐）、ate（吃eat的過去式）。
我們編故事的時候，要一次性地把「he、sit、ate」這個字母組合與「猶豫」這個中文字義聯結在一起。
我們可以編成這樣一個小故事：hesitate——他坐著吃魷魚（猶豫）。
然後把這個故事的圖畫場景在大腦中稍微想像一下，這個單詞就馬上被記住了。
這里，我們用「魷魚」這一具體的東西代替了「猶豫」這一抽象的名詞，更符合記憶的原理。
當然，如果擔心搞混，也可以這樣編：hesitate——他猶豫地坐下來吃。
這種編法的記憶效果就會稍微差一些。
無論是哪種編法，其效果都是很明顯的，當我們一看到「猶豫」這個詞，馬上就會通過聯結的作用把「他坐著吃（hesitate）」勾出來；
或者當我們看到「hesitate（他坐著吃）」的時候，就會通過聯結的作用把立即把「猶豫」勾了出來。
2，investigate —— 研究
「investigate」這個單詞包含著三個我們所熟悉的單詞：in（在…裡面）、vest（胸腔）、gate（門）。
除了這三個單詞之外，還有一個字母「i」，我們可以通過記憶密碼把它轉換為「開」。
根據這些元素，我們就可以編出這樣一個故事：
investigate —— 在胸腔里打開大門，進行研究。
這樣，我們就可以想像：噢，原來研究就是要在胸腔里開大門。
這個畫面一想，馬上就把所有的記憶信息聯結起來了。
3，hatred —— 仇恨、憎惡
「hatred」這個單詞由我們所熟悉的兩個單片語成：hat（帽子）、red（紅色的）
可以這樣來編故事：
hatred —— 小紅帽非常憎惡大灰狼。
4，forget —— 忘記、遺忘
forget —— 為了得到新的，必須要忘記舊的。（for—為了、get—得到）
5，forever —— 永遠、永恆地
forever —— 為了曾經許下的誓言，我們將會永遠地相愛。（for—為了，ever—曾經）
6，consent —— 同意
consent —— 獲得共同的感覺就意味著同意。（con—共同，sent—感覺）
7，classmate —— 同班同學
classmate —— 班級里的夥伴就是同班同學。（class—班級，mate—夥伴）
8，airline —— 航線
airline —— 空中的線就是航線。（air—空中，line—線）
9，catcall —— 喝倒彩
catcall —— 貓對著你喊叫就是向你喝倒彩。（cat—貓，call—喊叫）
10，clockwork —— 按計劃地
clockwork —— 時鍾總是按計劃地工作。（clock—時鍾，work—工作）
二，字母編碼法：
字母編碼法主要是針對那些不能組成我們所熟悉的單詞的那些字母，這是因人而異的。
例如「kidnap（綁架）」這個單詞，某些人來說，其中的「kid（小孩）」與「nap（小睡）」都是比較熟悉的單詞；然而，對另一些人來說，「nap」就不認識了，只能當作三個單獨的字母來進行重新編碼。
字母的編碼方法主要包括形象法、拼音法、諧音法三種。
形象法是指把一些字母轉化為與它的外形比較相似的編碼，如：
F（f） —— 拐杖； H（h）—— 椅子； L（l） —— 鋤頭；J（j） —— 勾子；
M（m）—— 門； O（o）—— 數字0； Z（z）—— 數字2；S（s）—— 數字5；
IV（iv）——數字4； IX（ix）——數字9；X（x）——數字10；
拼音法是指把一些字母組合用拼音的方法來轉化為相應的編碼，如：
字母ta，可以用拼音法編碼為「她」或「他」；
字母tu，可以用拼音法編碼為「圖」；
字母mi，可以編碼為「米」；
字母men，可以編碼為「門」；
字母lan，可以編碼為「藍」。
諸如此類。
另外，也可以把英文字母當作拼音首字母來進行編碼，如：
字母st，可以編碼為「水桶」、「石梯」等；
字母ty，可以編碼為「太陽」、「體育」等；
字母cg，可以編碼為「成功」、「成果」等；
字母pt，可編碼為「葡萄」、「撲通」等。
這種編碼就非常的靈活，可以根據具體的情況選擇最合適的編碼。
諧音法是指按照單詞的讀音來進行編碼，這種方法比較簡單，但如果對單詞發音的規則掌握得不好的話，即使知道怎麼讀，卻不一定能夠按照發音規則寫得出相應的字母。
例如 thank you，可以通過諧音法編碼為「三克油」，記憶的時候就可以記為「謝謝你給了我三克油」。
諧音法最大的弊端就是有些人沒有掌握好正確的單詞發音，就用諧音法來代替標準的發音，這對於英語口語來說是一個非常不好的習慣，特別對那些正在學習發音的學生會可能會妨礙他們掌握標準的單詞發音。
所以，在使用諧音法的時候需要注意的是，我們只是提倡用這種方法來幫助自己記憶單詞的寫法，而不是用來記憶單詞的發音。諧音歸諧音，正確的發音還是一定要掌握的。
應用舉例：
1，abolish —— 廢除、取消
abolish——啊，暴力須廢除。（用的是單詞發音的諧音法）
2，ambulance —— 救護車
ambulance——有一個人在救護車里大喊：俺不能死！俺不能死！（單詞發音諧音法）

減字母聯想法，舉例：
1，peak —— 山頂
peak——我們在山頂說話，把蛇都嚇跑了。（speak—說話，s—「蛇」的象形）
2，widow —— 寡婦
widow——寡婦的工作就是把窗戶的泥擦掉。（window—窗戶，n—「泥」的諧音）
上面我們所列舉的這些記英語單詞的方法，其原則只有一個，就是要盡可能地編造出充滿想像力的、令自己印象深刻的故事，以達到「作出最有效的聯結」的目的。
事實上，當我們在推薦這種「編故事」方法的時候，並不是要完全否定傳統的各種記憶法，如構詞記憶法、閱讀記憶法、協同記憶法、分類記憶法、循環記憶法等，這些方法作為「編故事」 記憶法的補充，也是必不可少的。
只不過，我們強調的是，在可能的情況下，我們應該盡量多用「編故事」 記憶法來記單詞，同時，再加以多種方法作補充，這才能最大限度地提高我們的記憶效率。
一般來說，這種「編故事」的方法適合於已有一定單詞積累、有了相當基礎的學習者，主要是初中高年級以上的學生。
對於那些英語的初學者，掌握單詞的正確發音是非常重要的。
而在學習單詞發音的時候，主要是要掌握發音的規律，而不能用諧音法去記單詞的發音。因為如果剛開始學的時候就用拼音的方法去進行單詞發音，那麼，這口語就很難說得標准了，而且也不利於以後進一步學習更多的單詞。
就像我們許多人要學粵語，為了速成，就用拼音來拼，這樣學到的粵語一定會很撇腳。
用諧音法、形象法這些「編故事」的方法來記憶英語單詞，之所以容易受到許多正統英語教師的指責，最主要的原因就是他們擔心這會把學生的口語基礎破壞掉。
事實上，只要把學發音、學口語和單詞記憶分開來，按照傳統的方法去學發音、去掌握發音規律，而按照「編故事」的方法來記憶單詞，那麼，這些記單詞的方法就絕對不會影響到口語的純正。
