「shut up !」(閉嘴!) 不如來一句「oh, come on.give me a break !」
「you look fine!」當然不錯,可如果你說「you』re in the pink !」
「他精力充沛」美國人說:「he is bouncy.」
如:久仰,「I get mind of you 」比「I heard a lot about you.」 代問他人好當然能用」please remember me to your sister .」 或「please give my best wishes to your father 」不過,若是很好的朋友,何不說,「please give my love to Jim。」
要比說「good-bye」或「see you soon」有趣得多,不妨一試。
有人開會遲到了,你若對他說 「you are late .」,聽起來象是廢話,若說「did you get lost ?」,則更能讓他歉然,可別說成「get lost!」
別人徵求你的意見,問能否開窗戶等,你要說「you can do that .」就有點土了,用一句「do you have the time? 」實際上,問他人的姓名,地址都可以這么用:「may I have you name?」要比」what』s your name ?
別人問你不願公開的問題,切勿用「it』s my secret ,don』t ask such a personal question .」 你可以說「I would rather not say .」(還是別說了吧!)。
有時候,你想說什麼,可說是想不起來,你可以說「well …」「let me see」「just a moment 」或「it』s on the tip of my tongue.」
交談時,你可能會轉換話題,不要只說「by the way 」,實際上,「to change the subject」「before I forget」「while I remember」「mind you 」都是既地道有受歡迎的表達。
用「I got it 」就順耳得多,要是不懂就說「I』m not clear about it .」不過如果你會說「It』s past my understanding」或「it』s beyond me.」

T:Come in please(在門口叫你)
S:說Thank you 後,輕聲關門,馬上走到考官前說:My name is XXX. How do you like me to address you, sir?
Sit down ,please.
Thanks very much for your time, and I enjoy taking with you. Have a good day ,(加上考官的名字,並且握手)。
Can I help you, please?"。 1. I thought you were needing me, Mr.Singer.(用過去時表示禮貌); 2. May I come in, please?(用情態動詞表示禮貌);3. Every piece of luggage has to be examined through.(用被動式表示禮貌);等等。 形容老年人最好用senior people, 不要用old people。 Ms. Edward is a very large woman and moves around with difficulty but she sparkles with intelligence and wit.。 Ms. Edward, a very large woman who moves around with difficulty, sparkles with intelligence and wit.。 Her study looks at some of the special challenges faced by deaf people who are married to normal partners.。 Her study looks at some of the special challenges faced by deaf people who are married to hearing partners.。 The islanders are a friendly and cheerful people, with a natural gift for music and dance that their Western visitors may well envy.。。 Visitors to the island are made to feel welcome, and are urged to take in some of the many music and dance performances that are a strong part of the local culture.。 The rowdiest of the patrons were hauled off in the paddy wagon, and the rest soon dispersed.。現在我們肯定不會說「That's awfully white of you」或者「Don't try to jew me down」之類的暗含種族主義的言論,但是我們很少有人知道paddy在這里暗含對愛爾蘭人的貶義。這類的例子還有:gyp(to swindle or cheat, from gypsy),Indian giver(to give only to take back),還有welsh或welch(break a promise or refuse to pay a debt)。英國人把梅毒叫作the French pox,而法國人則稱之為the English pox。 The rowdiest of the patrons were hauled off in the police van, and the rest soon dispersed.。 Someone left this fan letter for you, but they didn't sign it"這樣的句子聽起來是很自然的,也不會產生歧義,但是在書面語中語法規則要嚴格得多,所以they一般只指第三人稱復數。 Response to the new version of the program has been favorable; one customer, for example, said that they doubled their proctivity within the first threeweeks.。 Each student must hand in their own lab report.Every guest was given a name tag when they arrived.同時,我們也可以用he or she(him or her;his or hers),不過要注意一點:盡量避免在一句話中重復使用he or she,否則就會顯得很邋遢。 We asked each participant to speak openly about his feelings. We asked all participants to speak openly about their feelings.(更好)某些情況下,我們還可以用one來代替he(one有時也可以用來代替第一、二人稱)。 因此,從某種意義上說,one傳達了「you or I」的意思。比如:As a writer, one could workit into a book addressing other writers.( Is one making oneself clear?)。 Clinical judgment involves the phisician making use of his experience, as well as his knowledge of the particular patient.,不如說:Clinical judgment involves making use of one's experience, as wellas one's knowledge of the particular patient。 The reader should familiarize himself with these terms before proceeding.Familiarize yourself with these terms before proceeding.(更好)為了完全避免性別歧視,我們可以使用被動語態。 The advantage to making surgeon responsible for acquiring the research data is that he often acquires it in any case for clinical purposes.,不如說:The advantage to making surgeon responsible for acquiring the research data is that this information is oftenrequired in any case for clinical purposes.。 A psychiatrist may ethically obtain research data from his patients, but his main objective must remain that of attending to their needs.A psychiatrist may ethically obtain research data from patients, but must not lose sight of the main objective of attending to their needs.(更好)The bashful writer is reluctant to come right out and state his position firmly. The bashful writer is reluctant to come right out and state a firm position.(更好)有時不用代詞很難准確的表情達意,這時應該優先考慮表意的准確性。
