如何提高小學英語會話教學的實效性


一、對小學英語會話教學的理解
Dialogue(會話)來自希臘文dialogos一詞。Dia不僅有「二」的意思,而且有「之間」、跨越、通過的意義;logos包含有思想,理性、判斷的意義。組合起來,Dialogue含有意義之流動的意思,即意義在個體之間或通過個體而流動。Dialogue的學習是交流的過程,英語作為一種交際工具,只有在交際活動中才能被有效的掌握。因此,交際既是英語教學的最終目的,也是英語教學的主要手段。
小學英語會話教學是指通過課堂教學培養學生口頭表達的交際能力,提高會話技巧,最終習得並自如地駕馭語言能力的過程。其主要目的是培養小學生初步運用英語語言進行交際的能力。
二、目前小學英語會話教學存在的問題
目前小學英語會話教學存在的低效現象主要表現為:學生常出現會回答問題而不會提問的現象;交流時不能自然地引發話題;經常無話可說,有時不知從何說起;會話內容單一,經常出現為回答而回答的現象,回答的內容與實際生活不符;大部分學生只能針對所學的對話做一些替換練習;多數學生在語境中自主交流有一定的困難;學生會讀會背不會運用或在具體的應用中反應會慢幾拍等。
透過這些現象,我們可以把小學英語會話教學存在的問題歸納為重詞句,輕交際;重活動,輕情景;重機械操練,輕意義練習。重詞句,輕交際主要表現為會話課教學中過分關注對詞彙與句式的教學,忽視了語言交際,枯燥的詞句練習使學生的學習興趣打折扣,無法達成培養學生英語口語交際能力的教學目標。重活動,輕情景主要表現為:會話課堂中缺乏能促使學生思考的會話活動,大量的機械練習使學生的口語表達呆板,使得課堂交流缺乏生動性和鮮活性。重機械操練,輕意義練習主要表現為:教師過多地關注活動的趣味性和豐富性,而忽略了語言活動的實際效果,致使教學目標未能達成。
三、小學英語會話教學的基本原則
(一)情景性
交際離不開語境,因此會話教學也應該力圖在相對真實的語境下進行。教師應結合教學內容設定貼近學生生活實際的語言情景,在自然的情景中習得語言,使用語言並最終提高語言。情景下的語言才是生活中的語言,自然生成的語言能幫助學生理解語言的意義和使用場合,並在此過程中體會情感,內化語言,最終促進學生綜合語言運用能力的行程和發展。
(二)整體性
整體語言教學法強調語言學習的整體性,認為語言知識不能肢解,語言教學應從整體出發。在會話教學中,處理會話文本的環節應該特別注意整體呈現。語言輸入和輸出都應該遵循整體原則,通過聽、看獲取功能表達方式,通過說、演培養學生真實交際能力。
(三)活動性
現代外語教學注重語言學習的過程,強調語言學習的實踐性,主張學生在語境中接觸,體驗和理解真實語言,並在此基礎上學習和運用語言。教師應該根據學生特點和文本要求創設多樣的語言實踐活動,讓學生在活動中反復感知,體驗,操練語言並最終掌握語言。活動的設置要求多樣性,實效性強,並充分尊重小學生的認知和心理特點。
(四)主體性
《義務教育英語課程標准(2011)》中課程基本理念里,提出要面向全體學生,關注語言學習者的不同特點和個體差異,因此所有的教學活動的設計都應該緊緊圍繞學生的已知未知展開。充分調動學生的已有知識和生活體驗,根據小學生形象思維為主的生理特點,尊重愛說愛唱愛動愛演的天性,設計出學生樂於參與的學習活動,並在此過程關注到學生的個體差異,利用小組活動互幫互助,努力提高學生參與的積極性和參與面,真正做到面向全體學生。
(五)生活性
目前小學英語對話教學課堂存在明顯的非真實交際現象,很大的原因是設計的情景並非基於學生的生活體驗,離學生實際較遠,從而造成學生無話可說,或者僅僅套用詞彙句型完成虛假交際。因此,會話教學應該貼近學生生活,從學生的生活經驗出發,在真實的課堂讓他們充分理解語言使用的意義,從而縮短課堂教學與實際使用的距離。
四、創設語境是提高會話教學實效性的關鍵
語境的定義很廣,而且不同學派、不同學科的人們對其認識也各有不同。一般而言,語境就是語言交際所依賴的環境。它包括以下三個要素:一個要素是語言語境,即文章或言談中話題的上下文或上下句;另一個要素是人們交際時所共處的社交語境,即說話人使用語言和聽話人理解語言的客觀環境,如交際場所、交際雙方的身份、地位和彼此之間的關系以及雙方的社會、文化背景等(非語言語境);第三個要素是交際雙方各自不同的認知環境,即各自不同的經驗、經歷、知識等足以影響交際認知的種種情況。
語言展示情景,情景又促進對語言的理解。在某種語境下學習外語,或所學習的外語材料包含著一定的情景,則學習者容易理解和記憶。會話教學離不開情景,語言交際更離不開情景,學習只有通過交際活動才能真正掌握語言。在教學中,教師不可能將某些真實的情景搬入課堂,但卻能模擬真實的情景,創設真實自然的語言情景,讓學生在一定的語境中學習語言。因此,在會話教學中,教師應盡量創設真實的交際情景,在語境中增強語言實踐的真實感,引導和鼓勵學生參加語言實踐活動,培養學生的語言表達能力。
五、創設語境提高會話教學實效性的實踐研究
筆者在2014東城區基本功大賽中授課內容是北師大版《小學英語》教材三年級下冊unit9 Hot soup第三課時。教材中呈現了Ken和Ann 去廚房取食物這樣一個對話範本,其中包含了運用Is that water cold?來詢問食物的特點,從而很自然運用I want…/I don』t want來表達自己是否需要。這個場景有著濃郁的生活氣息,語言的交際意義非常突出,因此設計合理有效的語境顯得非常必要。
(一)巧設大語境,自然貫穿各個環節
【大情境呈現】 PPT圖片呈現Ann』s birthday這個大情境。
T: What』s that?
Ss: It』s a birthday party.
T: Whose birthday party is it?
Ss: It』s Ann』s birthday party.
T: Ann, Ken and their friends are singing and dancing at the party, but Ann isn』t here now. Where is she? Can you guess?
S: Maybe she is preparing the food.
本課時的會話內容呈現的是Ann 和Ken在廚房取餐的一個場景,對於一節完整的會話教學來說,情景太過單調,人物單一,不利於學生大范圍的參與和情感的真實投入,因此,本課巧妙設計了Ann的生日聚會這個大情境。另外,教材提供的對話文本和聽力練習,板塊的痕跡較重。如果按照傳統的板塊教學模式,會使孩子們學習起來思維產生斷裂,知識的學習顯得生硬,語言的使用非常牽強。而生日party這個大情境的設置,使所有的板塊很自然地融入情境中,學生在整堂課的學習中思維非常連貫。
(二)創設小情景,運用語言真實交流
【情景一】視頻呈現小主人公Ann在廚房為朋友們准備食物的場景。
T: Ann prepares some yummy food and drink for her friends. What are they in the kitchen? Can you guess?
Ss: Maybe some chicken, some hot dogs…
T: Let』s watch a video! What food or drink can you see in the kitchen?
Ss: I can see some cold milk/hot soup/sweet ice cream…
視頻真實地再現了Ann在廚房裡向夥伴們介紹美食的情景,孩子們樂於知道Ann的生日聚會都有哪些好吃的食物,因此注意力很集中,通過觀看視頻和談論食物喚起了相關食品詞彙以及部分形容食物的形容詞,從而使詞彙的復習應交際的需要而產生。
【情景二】課堂呈現孩子們在生日聚會上品嘗相關美食的情景。
T: Are you thirsty or hungry now? Here』re some food and drink at the party. Let』s have a look! Here』s an orange. Is that orange sour? You can come here to eat it.
部分學生上前品嘗橘子,香蕉,牛奶,果汁等並向全班同學匯報品嘗後的結果。
Ss: Is that orange sour? Is that milk cold? Is that juice sweet?
S: No, it isn』t. It』s sweet./Yes, it is.
品嘗聚會上美食的真實情景激發了孩子們運用目標語言進行交流的願望,使本課的難點句型在輕松的交流氛圍中得到突破,同時答案也是基於孩子們親身品嘗而得到,他們樂於參加這個活動,樂於使用語言進行問答。
【情景三】視頻呈現生日聚會上孩子們向主人Ann取餐的情景。
T: It』s dinner time! Ann』s friends go to the dining room. Ann can help them.
What do they want? Let』s watch!
Ss: They want some sweet corn/sweet juice/ hot noodles.
T: Do you want to eat or drink at the party? OK! I am Ann now. Who can come to choose your favorite food.
三個學生模仿視頻中取餐的對話上前來取餐,與老師完成四人一組的取餐示範。
T: Let』s do a group work. Four students in a group. One is Ann. The other three students choose your favorite food from Ann.
取餐的情景設計使最終的產出活動依然緊緊圍繞真實交際而展開。在模擬的語言情境中綜合運用學過的知識進行基於真實的交流,表達相對真實的需求。因為情境設置的真實合理,使孩子們的語言輸出不再局限於本課學習的句型,而是孩子們自然調動了已有的語言知識,使對話顯得更加真實和多樣。
會話教學是一種比較難操作的課型,作為教師,關鍵要根據教學目標把握重點句型和難點句型,通過創設情景等多種方式為學生提供充分操練語言的機會,巧妙運用行之有效的教學技巧,提高會話教學的課堂教學實效。
