His blade came down in a mighty arc - but the insect continued on its way! The crowd was aghast. The greatest swordsman had missed his target completely, yet he continued to smile.
"Why are you so happy?" someone yelled. "You missed!"
"Ah," replied the swordsman, "you weren't watching very carefully. They fly lives, yes - but he will never be a father."

Jonesie The Great Lion Hunter
A small village was troubled by a man-eating lion. So its leaders sent a message to the great hunter, Jonesie, to come and kill the beast.
For several nights the hunter lay in wait for the lion, but it never appeared. Finally, he told the village chief to kill a cow and give him its hide. Draping the skin over his shoulders, he went to the pasture to wait for the lion.
In the middle of the night, the villagers woke to the sound of blood-curdling shrieks coming from the pasture. As they carefully approached, they saw the hunter on the ground, groaning in pain. There was no sign of the lion.
"What happened, Jonesie? Where is the lion?" asked the chief.
"Forget the damn lion!" he howled. "Which one of you idiots let the bull loose?"

I. 如何培養少兒英語閱讀
小學英語教學旨在培養兒童的學習態度,學習興趣和良好的語音、語感,並強調「聽說」領先,「讀寫」跟上。但在實際教學中我們往往較重視聽、說、寫能力的訓練和培養,而在讀的方面較為忽視。語言技能是語言能力的重要組成部分,它包括聽,說,讀,寫四個方面的技能及這四項技能的綜合運用能力,而提高閱讀能力則是提高聽,說,讀,寫能力的關鍵。通過閱讀擴大知識,增加詞彙量,交流時就不會言不達意,寫作時才能內容豐富,語言地道,那麼應該怎樣搞好英語閱讀教學,同時提高小學生的英語閱讀能力呢?
一、培養學生的閱讀興趣
興趣是最好的老師,是學習積極性中最現實,最活躍的成分。一個學生只有對英語閱讀產生了濃厚的興趣,才會把閱讀看成自己的願望和需要,才會由被動閱讀轉為主動閱讀,才會有閱讀的自信心。相反,如果沒有興趣,閱讀就成了一種負擔。所以要想提高學生的閱讀能力,必須在教學的起始階段就要注重培養學生的閱讀興趣。
1.精心選擇閱讀材料
閱讀英語應當是輕松愉快,也可以是輕松愉快的。要做到這一點,閱讀材料的選擇是首要的。也就是要選擇生動有趣,富有吸引力而又能啟發心智的材料或書籍。小學英語科學普及出版社所選擇的閱讀內容故事性強,對學生既有吸引力又有啟發性,學生很樂意去讀和學,教學效果也很好。另外,根據課本所學的知識,並在此基礎上,編寫和收集小英文故事、小短文等。由於面對是小學生,所以材料內容要生動、有趣,激發小學生的閱讀興趣。材料可選擇熟識的童話故事、日常生活情景、各國各地區的生活文化介紹等內容,要讓學生感到閱讀是一種享受,是欣賞文章,而不是呆板地讀文章。
2.給予適當的閱讀指導
由於小學生的閱讀能力還處於基礎認知階段,對閱讀的方法和技能掌握的還不夠,我們在訓練學生閱讀時,應當適時適當地指導學生閱讀。這樣就會增加學生閱讀的自信心,這種指導可以是背景知識的介紹,也可以是閱讀方法的指導,在學生閱讀之前,介紹與材料相關的背景知識,可以激發學生的閱讀興趣和學習興趣,達到很好的學習效果。

坦也曾說過:「提出一個問題比解決一個問題更為重要,因為有問題,才會有思考,有了思考才有可能找到解決問題的方法和途徑。」然而在我們的小學英語閱讀教學中,教師講解—學生自讀—教師提問—學生答問的模式卻比比皆是,學生在課堂中總是處於「被組織」的狀態,主動權始終掌握在教師手中,提問成了教師的專利,學生的任務就是答問。所以,在閱讀教學中激發學生的閱讀動機,使學生的思維得到充分的調動是非常有必要的。
1.在閱讀前設置問題
讓學生帶著問題去閱讀,使教學和閱讀更具有目的性。學生通過對問題的思考與回答,就能准確判斷出對閱讀材料的理解如何。並且使學生對課文的理解更深入。進入高年級階段英語學習,學生學習能力和效果的分化越來越明顯。學習能力較強的學生如魚得水,提高極大;而學習有困難的孩子卻越來越力不從心,趕不上老師的要求和同學的腳步。針對這樣的情況,教師應調整方法,讓能乾的孩子提問,老師則根據問題的難易請相應程度的學生作答,要掌握好「問」和「答」的尺度,讓每個孩子在課堂上都有收獲和提高。
2.在閱讀中解決問題

三、拓展學生的閱讀空間
小學階段的英語閱讀教學往往局限於課本上的閱讀材料,而忽視了課外閱讀的指導和對閱讀材料的再「加工利用」。學生閱讀能力的提高絕非一朝一夕所能達到的,所以在日常教學中我們一定要注意逐步滲透閱讀教學,哪怕是一小段對話、一篇小短文,老師在讀法上都要做必要的指導。
1 .給學生創造良好的閱讀環境
課堂固然是教學的主陣地,但教師也要充分利用校園里的設施為學生提供英語課外閱讀的機會,精心打造有利於學生英語閱讀的環境,使學生在無意識當中提高學習英語的興趣,豐富英語知識。如:
(1)在校園里設立英語標志牌或標語,為各種教室配上中英文標識。
(2)辦好英語黑板報,英語長廊等宣傳欄目,刊登英語小故事、英語詩歌、英語文化背景知識等。
(3)利用校園廣播或電視網定期播放兒童英語節目,介紹學生喜愛的兒歌、歌曲或卡通片。

2 .給學生提供多樣的閱讀形式
故事和歌謠是學生較喜歡的形式,老師可以引導學生將閱讀學的內容改編成故事或歌謠的形式,如試著把課文中的對話轉變為一段文章,讓學生在動中學,在樂中學。這不僅可以增進學生對課文的理解,同時也是提高學生寫作能力的一種方法,可以為今後的作文教育打好伏筆。我們還可以參照語文的教學方法,給學生一些圖片,讓學生進行看圖寫話的訓練,自編故事。另外也可以在教學中加入多媒體的應用,這樣可以根據閱讀內容呈現情景,使教學過程變得形象、生動、活潑,營造良好的學習氛圍,使學生樂學、愛學,激發求知慾望。
四、提高閱讀速度
在英語閱讀過程中,不同的閱讀任務可以運用不同的策略和技巧:
1、 根據上下文猜測詞義
小學生在閱讀中碰到生詞,可根據上下文的信息和句法去推斷詞義。例如這一段There are many mice in a house. The man of the house gets a cat. The cat kills many of the mice.其中kill是一個新單詞,但學生能大概猜出這詞的意思。
2、 預測內容
在閱讀過程中不斷驗證和修正自己預測的過程。例如《What am I?》這篇短文,開頭What am I? Please guess.就把小學生帶入文章的猜想中。接著I』m big,just like a box. I have a big face without a nose or eyes. I don』t have any hands or legs.對要猜想的物品進行直接的描寫。使小學生的思路轉到類似的幾個物品中進行搜索推究。最後根據People,old and young,like to watch me.Do you know what I am?鎖定所要猜想的物品。小學生的思路從大到小到點到猜出答案,完成閱讀內容,達到閱讀目的。在這基礎上,進行大量難度相當或略加提高的閱讀,每周一節的閱讀課學習二、三篇短文,課外每天閱讀一篇短文,一個學期共閱讀一百二十篇短文。在量的積累時,質的飛躍是必然的,閱讀的速度自然加快。理解和速度是檢查小學生閱讀能力的二個標志。
五、因材施教
由於各個小學生智力發展等多個方面原因,小學生的英語能力差別很大,所以英語閱讀教學要針對實際因材施教,提高各層次小學生的的英語能力。把閱讀材料分A、B二個層次:A是基礎篇。B是發展篇。基礎篇是與課本內容相當的短文,是對課本知識的復習。而發展篇是在這個知識點的基礎上,從短文的內容、長度、難度略加高一些。
總之,閱讀理解能力是一種綜合能力。隨著英語教學改革的不斷深入,對學生綜合英語能力的要求也越來越高。閱讀能力是英語自學能力的基礎,同時又是培養學生綜合語言運用能力和自學能力的手段。因此教師在學生開始英語語言學習的同時,就應注重對學生英語閱讀習慣及閱讀能力的培養和訓練,為學生的終身學習打下良好的基礎。
