「興趣是最好的老師。」閱讀材料的選擇，首先，要有趣味性；其次，還要有可讀性，難度要適合學生的水平。如，世界名著的簡寫本《書蟲系列》《床頭燈系列》《秘密花園》等。正如諾貝爾文學獎獲得者黑塞所說：「每個人應當從自己能夠理解和喜歡的作品開始閱讀。」
四、文章遵循由易到難的原則

五、閱讀的形式多樣化
每天堅持閱讀英語報紙雜志、文學作品等書面材料。或者收看電視新聞、電視劇、綜藝節目或是電影等等可以被稱作「有聲閱讀」。
六、閱讀要適量、持之以恆
每天要求的量不多，閱讀一兩篇英語課外讀物，但是要經常提醒學生貴在堅持。堅持不懈地訓練，學生能養成好的閱讀習慣，提高閱讀速度和效率。
總之，教師的指導不但要「授之以魚」，而且要「授之以漁」，要讓學生通過英語閱讀自我提高、自我創新。
