Ⅲ 要一篇關於減肥的英語作文
Who says losing weight has to be hard? These effortless activities can help rev your metabolism—and melt the pounds away.
Actor Pete Postlethwaite once said: "I exercise every morning without fail. One eyelid goes up and the other follows." That quote may seem nonsensical, but the sentiment actually makes some sense.
Take a closer look at your daily routine, and you'll find plenty of opportunities for easy calorie-burning activities--no gym required. Or simply follow our cheat sheet to give your metabolism and your health an instant boost.
1. Walk, walk, walk. It's a no-brainer that can't be stressed enough. Experts recommend taking 10,000 steps a day, so the next time you go shopping, park your car farther away from the entrance. In the office, visit your colleagues from different departments instead of messaging or phoning them. And always take the stairs instead of the elevator.
2. Do a housework workout
. Whenever you have to do those nagging chores, do them with some pizzazz. Grab your iPod or turn on the radio, and clean along to the music. You'll work at a faster pace and burn more calories, and your chores will be done before you know it.
3. Eat breakfast
. It may seem counterintuitive, but experts believe that skipping breakfast actually encourages obesity. Part of the reason, according to the American Diabetic Association, may be that eating breakfast helps speed up your metabolism.
4. Drink water
. Because sodas are full of sugar and empty calories, it takes a long time to burn them off. Drinking at least eight glasses of water a day, in contrast, has no calories, makes you feel full, and boosts your metabolism.
5. Turn down the heat
. Do this ring the winter, especially at night, and you'll burn more calories. In the summer, turn on the air-conditioning. A colder environment forces your body to proce more heat, helping you to burn more calories.

Diet and Health(飲食與健康)可以參考:
A study done in Greece says people can live longer and healthier lives if they eat what is known as the Mediterranean diet. Foods included in this way of eating are vegetables, fruit, beans, fish, whole grains and olive oil. Such a diet generally gets about forty percent of its calories from olive oil and other fats that are considered healthy.
Researchers from the University of Athens and Harvard University Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts did the study. They published the results in the New England Journal of Medicine.
The study involved twenty-two-thousand healthy people in Greece. They were between the ages of twenty and eighty-six. The researchers questioned each of them about what they ate and how much they took part in physical activity.
The researchers gave them points for exercise and for each part of the Mediterranean diet they followed. People who ate vegetables, beans, fruit, nuts, whole grains and fish got higher numbers than people who did not eat these foods.
People also received a point for drinking some alcohol -- about one glass of wine a day for women, two glasses for men. They got no points if they drank more or less than that.
The study lasted for a period of four years. During that time, two-hundred-seventy-five people died. Thirty-five percent of those people died of cancer. Twenty percent died of heart disease.
The researchers found that those who followed the Mediterranean diet were less likely to die than those who did not. Also, the followers of the Mediterranean diet were less likely to die of heart disease and cancer. And the study showed exercise to be important. The people who exercised at least one hour a day had a twenty-eight percent less chance of dying than those who did not exercise.
The study also showed a link between following the Mediterranean diet and living to an old age. And it confirmed earlier studies that had suggested the effectiveness of such a diet.
Researchers say it is not just one or two foods in the Mediterranean diet that make the difference -- it is all the foods together. So they say people should eat a lot of fruits, vegetables, beans and fish. They should use olive oil in their cooking. And they should exercise every day.

Ⅹ 關於減肥的英語短文
.Experts say if you have to choose between a diet or exercise to lose weight, choose exercise. A new study suggests it's better to hit the weight room than cut back on how much you eat.
And although the goal is the same -- use more energy than you stockpile -- working out has more benefits.
People who exercise tend to be stronger, have more muscle mass, and an increased aerobic capacity. Dieters tend to lose muscle mass and strength.
"If push comes to shove and somebody wants to know if they should diet or exercise to lose weight, I would suggest exercise, provided they are willing to put in the extra time and effort and not offset the gains they make by eating more," said study lead author Edward Weiss, a researcher at Saint Louis University's Doisy College of Health Sciences.
Weiss and his colleagues studied 34 people between the ages of 50 and 60 who were in the high end of normal weight or overweight. Of the participants, 18 dieted while 16 exercised.
The dieters reced their calorie intake by 16 percent the first three months and 20 percent for the next nine months. The exercise group worked out to burn 16 percent more calories the first three months and 20 percent the following nine months.
Both groups lost around 9 to 10 percent of their body weight. But the dieters lost muscle mass, while the exercisers did not.
"It's important that dieting not be seen as a bad thing because it provides enormous benefits with respect to recing the risk of disease and is effective for weight loss," Weiss said. "Furthermore, based on studies in rodents, there is a real possibility that calorie restriction provides benefits that cannot be achieved through exercise-inced weight loss."
The study is detailed in an online edition of the Journal of Applied Physiology.
2.You will not lose weight in your sleep or shed pounds while eating anything you want -- that's the sobering message from the maker of a weight loss pill poised to hit shelves next month.
GlaxoSmithKline on Tuesday opened an ecational exhibit in New York City to prepare the country for alli, the first over-the-counter diet pill approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
While the cautionary marketing approach may not trigger stampedes to the counter, analysts say the drug's fate hinges on the pharmaceutical giant's ability to convince people that diet pills aren't a magic bullet.
"People's hopes are ridiculously high when it comes to diet pills. That leads to disappointment and bad word of mouth," said Steven Brozak, an analyst with WBB Securities.
That's just what happened to the preion version of the drug, Xenical by Roche Holding, which contains twice the dosage. People were let down when it failed to deliver dramatic results and the drug never really caught on, Brozak said.
GlaxoSmithKline has apparently learned the lesson and is counting on alli to become a star money maker. The company is spending $150 million on marketing alli this year, making it one of the drug maker's biggest campaigns to date.
"We've done everything to go out of our way to be honest," said Steve Burton, vice president of the weight control division at GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare. "We're taking a very different approach than the fad diets people are constantly exposed to."
In clinical trials, the FDA says that people using alli lost an additional 2 to 3 pounds for every 5 pounds lost through diet and exercise. The FDA approved alli to be sold over the counter in February.
When taken with meals, the drug blocks the absorption of about one-quarter of any fat consumed. That fat -- about 150 to 200 calories worth -- is passed out of the body, potentially resulting in loose stools.
About half of patients in trials experienced gastrointestinal side effects, including leakages and oily discharges.
GlaxoSmithKline is frank about those unpleasant effects, which it says can be controlled if the drug is used properly. The campaign stresses the importance of keeping meals under 15 grams of fat to avoid effects.
Ecational materials even recommend people start the program when they have a few days off work, or to bring an extra pair of pants to the office. Experts say a failure to adequately prepare consumers about the effects contributed to Xenical's limited success.
Alli only affects the digestive system, Glaxo says, and is the only safe over-the-counter diet drug that's been shown to work.
The company estimates 5 million to 6 million Americans a year will buy the drug, translating to at least $1.5 billion (euro1.1 billion) a year in retail sales.
The drug will come in "starter kits" containing a food journal, a healthy eating guide and a fat and calorie reference guide. A 60-capsule kit will cost about $50 (euro37) while a 90-capsule pack will cost about $60 (euro45). Recommended usage is one or two pills daily.
Labeling indicates alli is appropriate for anybody who is overweight, or has a body mass index of 25 or higher. A body mass index over 30 is considered obese.
Two-thirds of the U.S. population is estimated to be overweight or obese.
The alli event comes a day after the company's shares dropped almost 8 percent when a report this week found the company's widely prescribed diabetes pill raised the risk of heart attacks and possibly death. Some experts called it another Vioxx-like example of the U.S. government failing to protect people from an unsafe drug.
