I do not like such men as spend their money in a wrong way. They do not know extravagance is a bad thing. It can only make them happy for the time being. In short, thrift makes poor men rich and extravagance makes rich men poor.

著名的心理學家皮亞傑說「一切有效的工作必須以某種興趣為先決條件。」英國教育家洛克說：「教員的最大技巧在於集中學生注意力」。而故事導入法的魅力正在於此。講一個鮮為人知，充滿懸念而又幽默風趣的小故事導入閱讀，會令學生全身心地投入到神奇而曲折的故事情節中去，這樣既能有效的吸引學生的注意力，自然導入新課，又能啟迪學生的心智，培養學生豐富的想像力和欣賞力。學習英語更是如此。因此每學期開始,要求每位學生自己訂一份英語周報或時代英語報,我把它稱作」英語大餐」。有的家長還給學生購買一些英語雜志或資料。這些資料在什麼時候發揮作用呢？比如我要求在每節課的開始，除了Everyday English之外，我還抽出幾分鍾，輪流讓一到兩名學生用英語來講一個故事，笑話，或作一段演講，甚至是唱一首英文歌曲。學生為了展現自我，同時為了避免丟臉，必會在家仔細鑽研手頭的閱讀材料，觀看久已成了擺設的英語碟片。久而久之對他們的口頭表達能力和習作能力也是一種鍛煉。我經常看到學生們在課余時間三三兩兩聚在一起，或討論或交流，我想正是有了一種濃厚的興趣和愛好，才會如此著迷，才會讓學生們走得更近。

為了讓學生繼續保持英語閱讀的興趣，有效進行課外閱讀，教師應該為學生提供一個展示的平台。我每一個月我都會讓學生製作一份英語小報。如九月分是一個繽紛的季節，學生們製作的英語報中，有的叫「九月的祝福」，寫的有關教師的內容；有的叫「中秋的情絲」，是有關中秋明月的內容。學生在完成任務的過程中，小組成員分工合作，有的找材料，有的做設計，忙得不亦樂乎，很多不為人知的故事被挖掘出來。學生們在這個過程中，閱讀得到了鍛煉，欣賞得到了提高。又如2008年從三年級至六年級發了<<英語閱讀欣賞>>一書,我就充分利用了這本書。比如三四年級的英語歌,確實好聽,學生們唱起來特別帶勁,而五六年級的那些故事,學生們也很樂意去讀,去扮演.在「六一」兒童節文娛匯報演出中,我組織學生唱英語歌和表演英語短劇，演出效果出奇的好，當他們體驗到成功的喜悅，他們的信心倍增，興趣也更濃厚。教師們要充分抓住學生的興趣點，創設各種平台，讓學生充分展示自己的閱讀成果。
我想,只要我們廣大小學英語教師明確具體的英語閱讀教學目標要求，持之以恆地培養小學英語閱讀的興趣和能力，採用恰當的閱讀教學模式，將聽說讀寫活動恰當的融入到閱讀教學中去，小學生的英語閱讀潛能一定會得到充分的挖掘和提高。
