Tom arrived at the bus station quite early for Paris bus. The bus for Paris would not leave until five to twelve. He saw a lot of people waiting in the station. Some were standing in line(排隊), others were walking around. There was a group of schoolgirls. Their teacher was trying to keep them in line. Tom looked around but there was no place for him to sit.
He walked into the station cafe(咖啡館). He looked up at the clock there. It was only twenty to twelve. He found a seat and sat down before a large mirror(鏡子) on the wall. Just then, Mike, one of Tom』s workmates came in and sat with Tom.
「 time is your bus?」 asked Mike.
「There』s plenty of time yet,」 answered Tom.
「Well, I』ll get you some more tea then,」 said Mike.
They talked while drinking. Then Tom looked at the clock again. 「Oh! It』s going backward (倒行)!」 He cried. 「A few minutes ago it was twenty to twelve and now it』s half past eleven.」

通讀有關的語言材料,基本了解語言材料的中心內容,體會課文的語境和作者的感情.遇到不認識或不理解的詞彙和短語,先做個記號,然後聯系其所處的語言環境(上下文),猜測詞義,作出判斷.因為語言環境不同,詞的意思也各異.如果每篇課文我們都能如此學習,那麼,我們的閱讀理解能力以及結合語言環境解決疑難問題的能力將大大提高.
四、通過預習,初步掃除下一步學習中的語言障礙
各單元的學習都是從詞彙入手的,可以說生詞是英語課堂教學的主要障礙.對於這些障礙,一方面我們可以根據新舊知識的聯系加以分析;另一方面我們可以藉助字典和其他工具書,把生詞的拼寫、讀音、詞性、用法及例句記在筆記本上;對於課文,可以查閱相關資料,了解課文內容的背景知識.有條件的同學可以利用網際網路、網路全書查找背景材料.這樣在課堂上我們就能騰出更多的時間和精力,加深對重點、難點的理解和運用.
五、預習過程中要做好預習筆記
做好預習筆記須做到以下幾點：一是摘抄新舊短語和表達法.舊的短語和表達法一段時間不用,很快就會生疏,每一次復現都是一次有效的復習;二是摘抄典型句型,這樣可以不斷豐富我們的語言材料和語言知識;三要注意把預習過程中遇到的難點記錄下來,以便聽課的時候有針對性;四是預習筆記可以同課堂筆記合一,使課堂筆記成為預習筆記的補充和延伸.
