Environmental pollution is one of the most serious problems facing mankind today. Badly polluted air can cause illness, and even death. Polluted water kills fish and other marine life. Water pollution reces the amount of pure, fresh water that is available for such necessities as drinking and cleaning, and for such activities as swimming and fishing. However, if the installation of expensive pollution controls leads to the rection of proctivity, the unemployed might feel that the risks from polluted air and water are minor weighed against the benefits of profitable employment. The same level of pollution can also affect two people quite differently --- some forms of air pollution might be a slight annoyance to a health person but life threatening to someone with emphysema or another respiratory disorder.
