需要三個條件：第一，自不量力的勇氣有很多人總是覺得自己的英語水平不好，總是覺得閱讀英文原版書是自己無法企及的一個高度，其實我要告訴大家並不是這樣。如果我一個高中英語滿分150分我只能考75分的人能夠做到，你們也一樣能夠做到。在人生的某些節點上，自不量力也許是更正確的道路。第二，行之有效的方法第一步，堅持。這里講的堅持是狹義的堅持，什麼意思？因為每位作者的文風都不一樣，所以在看一本英文原版書的時候，前10%可能是最難熬的，你可能會覺得各種讀不懂，但這個時候千萬不能放棄。這個時候，哪怕你多翻字典，甚至對照中文譯文，只要能看懂並且看下去，就可以（特別是那些你對劇情一無所知的書）。相信我，大部分書，你把前面的10%堅持過去了，後面等待你的將會是一片全新的天地（如果一本書你看了20%還是覺得完全沒感覺，那這本書可能真的不適合你）。第二步，詞彙。根據我個人的經驗，詞彙量可以分成4000以下、4000-8000、8000-15000、和15000以上四個級別，每個級別的詞彙量適合看的書顯然也是不同的（這一點會在下文詳述）。有人問詞彙量在4000以下是不是就不能看原版書了？當然不是，其實正常情況下一個合格的初中畢業生就可以開始看一些簡單的英文原版書。關於詞彙量的提升並不是我這里要說的重點，我想說的是如何在閱讀原版書的時候用正確的方法學習單詞。我們知道詞典和詞彙書都可以幫我們學習單詞，但是兩者都有缺點，都不能滿足我們個性化的需要。第一、嵌入式記憶，不再記憶孤立的單詞，而是在情景中增加對單詞理解的深度；第二、每個單詞配英文釋義和經典例句，增加對單詞記憶的同時也提升了對相應作品的理解；第三、大家可以看到，在每個單詞的右上角有frequency和register兩欄：frequency指的是這個單詞出現的頻率是高、一般還是低；而register指的是這個單詞的語域是正式、一般還是非正式。這樣對寫作和口語的提升也是顯著的，比如寫作時我們盡量要用書面化的表達，口語則剛好相反。其實除了詞彙之外，我們還需要學習一些句法。不過在本文中我就不詳述了，今後有機會再另寫一篇文章來詳細解決這個問題。第三步，閱讀媒介及參考工具。以前我們總是抱怨資源匱乏，但現在網路上的資源卻是漫天飛，只有你不想要的，沒有你找不到的。從媒介來看，閱讀方式主要分為傳統的紙媒書籍和現代的電子書籍。兩種方式各有優點，紙質書拿在手中本身就是一種享受，而且更加方便翻頁和記筆記；kindle等電子閱讀器的話攜帶更加方便，而且完全百分比的量化更加適合規劃閱讀。參考工具主要是字典，在這里我推薦兩本我很喜歡的：朗文當代英語詞典和韋氏大學詞典。
