英語倍數的翻譯似乎是一個老生常談的問題,但如何准確地翻譯英語倍數一直存在著爭議.英語表示倍數增減或倍數對比的句型多種多樣,其中有一些句型很容易譯錯,這是因為在英文和中文的表達中,兩種語言的表達思維是不一樣的,存在著差異和區別.只有懂得了這些思維方式的差異和區別,才能正確地掌握好英語倍數的翻譯.用英語表達「A 是 B 的 N 倍」,「A 比 B 大N 倍」 或「A 比B 小 N 分之幾」等,可用下列幾種句型：
1． 倍數增加（1） A is N times as great as B.A is N times greater than B. A is N times the size of B.
以上三句都應譯為：A的大小是B的N倍（或A比B大N－1倍）.註：當相比的對象B很明顯時,than（as,of）B常被省去.（2）increase to N times
increase N times／N-fold
increase by N times
increase by a factor of N以上四句均應譯為：增加到N倍（或：增加N－1倍）. 註：在這類句型中increase常被raise,grow,go/step up,multiply等詞所替代.
（3）There is a N-fold/N times increase/growth…應譯為：增加N－1倍（或增至N倍）.
……在所有這些句型中,爭議最大的大概是這樣的句子： A is three times greater than B.
這個句子雖然簡單,但爭議頗多,可能是英語倍數翻譯中爭議最大的一個,即使在英語工具書和其他有關英語翻譯的書上,也是兩種譯法.有的學者認為應該譯為「A比B大3倍（A是B的4倍）」,也有的學者有不同的譯法,認為應該譯作「A比B大2倍（A是B的3倍）」,似乎沒有定論.而在我所查閱過的所有英語詞典（包括英漢詞典和英英詞典）中都沒有發現對這一句型的說明和解釋,也就是說,幾乎所有詞典都迴避了這個問題,可見爭議之大.十多年前,我曾就此問題查閱過許多英語語法書籍,但絕大多數語法書也都同樣迴避了這個句型,不置可否.只有很少的語法書提到了這個句型,但卻是兩種解釋都有,沒有定論.而且大都用詞含糊,似乎連自己也不太自信.也就是說,對於這個句型,我至今沒有找到一本書,能夠對之予以堅定且具有說服力的說明和解釋.我也曾請教過許多外國學者,外國學者中也同樣存在著兩種看法,有人說A是B的3倍,也有人說A是B的4倍.如果再追問他們一句「肯定嗎」,則大部分外國朋友也都含糊其詞,不能堅定自己的看法.

=This bridge is three times width of that one.（這座橋的寬度是那座橋的三倍.）

造不出，你就把下個句子一樣的方法分解，只不過is變成了has，然後that of直接變成了一個量而已。
The rail system has triple the average number of accidents.
鐵路系統事故是事故平均數量的三倍。

1.「A + be + 倍數 + as + 計量形容詞原級 + as + B」
This tree is three times as tall as that one. 這棵樹是那棵樹的三倍高。
His father is twice as old as he. 他父親的年紀有他兩倍大。
2.「A + be + 倍數 + 計量形容詞比較級 + than + B 」
The Yangtze River is almost twice longer than the Pearl River.
長江差不多比珠江長兩倍。
The dictionary is exactly five times more expensive than that one.
這本字典比那本恰好貴5倍。
3.「A + be + 倍數 + the + 計量名詞 + of + B 」
The newly broadened square id four times the size of the previous one.
新擴建的廣場是未擴建時的四倍大。
4.「The + 計量名詞 + of + A + be + 倍數 + that + of + B 」
The size of the newly broadened square is four times that of the previous one.
新擴建的廣場為以前的四倍大。
5.其它
I'm twice/ double his age. 我的年齡是他的兩倍。
I've paid five times the usual price for the stamp.
我出了5倍於往常的價格買這枚郵票。
The average income of the staff has been increased by 50 percent compared with last year. 與去年相比，該單位職工的收入增加了50%。
The price of TVs are twofold（adj. 兩部分的，雙重的）down over these years.
近幾年來，電視機的價格下降了兩倍。
⑷ 高中英語語法-倍數表達問題
A是B的X倍有三種表達方法，
`1 A is "X的序數詞" the +「表示長短，輕重的名詞形式如，length weigth等等」回 of B
例如 A是B的5倍長 A is 5th the length of B
2 A is "(X-1)的序數詞" + 形容詞的比較級 如 longer + than + B
例如，A是B的5倍長 A is 4th（=5-1）longer than B 也就是第一題中那樣
3 A is 「（X-1）的序數詞」+ times +形容詞的比較級 + than + B
例如 A是B的5倍長 A is 4 times longer than B
4 序數詞 + as + 形容詞 + as
例如 A是B的5倍長 A is 5th as long as B
其中第二種容易混淆，只要記住(X-1)就好 所以第一題你就明白了
其餘的題目就是第四中的各種應用了，同時要記得題目中的各種變化，如單復數的變化，詞性的變化，系動詞的變化等等
這中問題問老師一下子就能明白，多問老師啊，老師那麼長的答教學經歷，這點是小意思，同時你得多加練習。

1
倍數表示復法
a. 主語+謂語制+倍數（或分數）+ as + adj. + as。例如
I have three times as many as you. 我有你三倍那麼多。
b. 主語+謂語+倍數（分數）+ the size （amount，length…） of…。例如：
The earth is 49 times the size of the moon. 地球是月球的49倍。
c. 主語+謂語+倍數（分數）+ 形容詞（副詞）比較級+ than…。例如：
The grain output is 8 percent higher this year than that of last year. 今年比去年糧食產量增加8%。
d. 還可以用by+倍數，表示增加多少倍。例如：
The proction of grain has been increased by four times this year. 今年糧食產量增加了4倍。
