1.對話題
對話題可以說是考生最易拿分的部分，建議考生在做這部分題目時，按以下三個步驟來完成。
第一步：預讀選項。聽錄音前先瀏覽一下題目的四個選項，這是做好聽力題目的必要前提。考生通過分析四個選項，再結合自己的猜測，就可以對對話所涉及的話題有個大體的了解，這樣就可以帶著問題去聽，就能將注意力集中在對話中的關鍵信息點，從而減輕聽的負擔。
第二步：把握關鍵詞和關鍵句。在聽錄音的過程中，考生要注意把握一些關鍵詞和關鍵句。首先要注意聽表示轉折關系的詞彙，例如but、however、unfortunately、unexpectedly、to tell the truth等。其次也要注意聽關鍵句。在對話題中，往往會有一些表示建議或勸告的句子，例如「Why…」「Why not…」「Why don』t you/we…」「It would be better to do...」「Wouldn』t it be better to do…」根據對歷年四級聽力真題的分析，這類關鍵詞和關鍵句之後往往是考點所在，所以考生要加以重視。

2. 短文理解
短文理解部分的文章信息量大、題材范圍廣。從歷年的考試題目來看，短文理解部分考查過社會、生活、政治、歷史、文化、藝術等多種題材。由於很多短文文章邏輯結構復雜，生詞難句較多，所以很多考生都覺得這一部分很難駕馭。其實，如果考生注意分析和總結，這部分還是有很多規律和方法可循，如下所示：
① 重兩頭輕中間。西方人說話時喜歡單刀直入、開門見山，所以往往一篇文章的開頭就是全文的主題句，即便不是主題句，也會包含很多信息，理解這些信息有利於考生把握整篇文章。而結尾部分通常又是文章的總結句，概括和歸納了全文的中心。所以考生在聽這部分的錄音時，一定要抓住文章的開頭和結尾。
② 注意標志性細節。聽力材料中出現的時間、數字、地點等信息以及表示原因和轉折關系的詞彙和句子經常是標志性的出題點所在。所以，考生在聽的時候要特別留意這些細節，做好筆記。
3. 復合式聽寫
從命題形式來看，復合式聽寫與前兩部分截然不同，它考查的是考生的單詞拼寫以及對信息的迅速反應能力。對於這一題型，也有一些相應的做題技巧。
聽寫前迅速瀏覽全文。在這部分的聽力錄音播放前，考生應快速瀏覽一下全文，掌握文章的大概內容。根據對歷年復合式聽寫文章的分析，筆者發現這部分的文章基本上是採用了「總—分」或「總—分—總」的結構。所以，考生在瀏覽全文時，要重點理解文章的首尾幾句。如果時間充裕，考生還可以快速觀察一下空格前後的一些語法信息，從中判斷空格處應填單詞的詞性、單復數、時態以及語態等信息。
以聽為主、以記為輔。考生在記錄信息時要有所側重和取捨，應重點記那些支撐句子結構的主要成分，即主語、謂語和賓語，而一些虛詞（冠詞、助動詞等）則可省略不記。
聽寫完一定要檢查。有些考生在做完聽寫後馬上開始做閱讀題，想從聽力中節省時間來做其他的題，這種做法是得不償失的。考生在做完聽寫後，應特別注意檢查空格處所填詞彙的拼寫、大小寫、單復數形式以及動詞的時態等是否准確。1～2分鍾的檢查並不耽誤時間，卻往往能有效避免在本該得分的地方丟分。
閱讀
與聽力相同，閱讀在四級考試中所佔的分值比重也是35%，這一題型也是考生在備考過程中的重中之重。很多考生覺得做閱讀題面臨的最大問題就是時間不夠。而要解決時間問題，就要提高閱讀速度。這一方面有賴於考生平時多積累、多練習；另一方面，也可藉助於一定的方法、技巧。很多考生在做閱讀題時，一上來就鑽入文章開始細讀，這樣的做題步驟對於分秒必爭的四級考試是完全不合適的。筆者建議各位考生，在做四級閱讀時可以遵循以下的做題程序。
第一步：看題干。
閱讀文章前，考生應先花一分鍾左右的時間把閱讀文章後面的題目看一下，找准題干中的定位詞，做上記號，以加深印象。
第二步：閱讀文章，把握文章大意，忽略次要信息。
在閱讀文章時，考生需要以較快的速度從大量材料中捕捉相關信息，這就要求考生必須養成良好的閱讀習慣：不是逐字逐詞閱讀，理解每一個單詞、片語或句子的意思；而是應該按意群掃視，連貫閱讀，把握每段的中心句或中心思想，根據題干中標出的定位詞在文章中定位關鍵信息，把握文章的大意。
閱讀文章每篇有好幾百個單詞，但並不是每一個單詞、每一句話都包含有用信息。因此，提高閱讀速度的一個最直觀的方法就是忽略次要信息，只讀那些包含有用信息的句子。有些考生可能會有這樣的疑問：怎麼能知道文章中哪些句子包含有用的信息，哪句句子不包含有用的信息呢？筆者在此列舉幾個方面，希望能給考生一些啟示：
① 重視段落首末。近幾年的閱讀理解題目增加了對段落首末內容的考查。因為在每段首末處，經常會出現一些觀點性的語言和總結性的描述，這經常會成為閱讀主旨題的考查點。
② 重視轉折性詞彙。文中的轉折性的詞彙經常會成為閱讀考點的標志性詞彙。例如however、but等詞彙，這些詞彙後面的內容往往就是考點所在。
忽略某些例句。閱讀中經常出現一些例句，用來強調說明文章所陳述的觀點，這些句子一般由for example、for instance、e.g.等詞來引導。對於這些例句，除非閱讀文章後的題目中有所提及，否則往往可以忽略不讀。
④ 忽略某些研究所表明的觀點。閱讀文章中，作者在給出某個觀點後，有時會在觀點之後加上某某研究表明(常出現research、survey、study等詞彙)，那麼同樣地，除非閱讀文章後的題目中有所提及，否則這些research、survey、study等所陳述的具體內容通常也可忽略不讀。這是因為作者已經亮出了觀點，後面加上某某研究，通常只是為了進一步論證這一觀點，使文章可信度更高，而這些研究對文章的中心沒有任何影響，因此可以忽略。
第三步：先做細節題，後做主旨題。
考生在做細節題時，必須根據題干中的關鍵詞迴文章中定位，分析相關內容，切勿直接根據第一遍閱讀時的主觀印象直接做題。做完細節題後，考生會對文章內容有更深的理解，在此基礎之上再完成主旨大意題和最佳標題題，會准確很多。
此外，筆者也建議考生在平時的復習時擴大閱讀面，多讀一些涉及英美等國的社會文化背景材料和科普讀物，這對於提高考(論壇)生的閱讀理解能力大有裨益。
寫作
四級考試的寫作部分有其固有的特點，即對作文的話題、觀點和字數都有嚴格的限制，重點考查的是考生的英語書面表達能力。
筆者作為四級閱卷老師，比較熟悉閱卷老師的普遍心理。在閱卷過程中，老師最重視的是考生的語言表達，「言之無文，行而不遠」，考生作文的語言使用能力對評分起著決定性作用。然而，語言的貧乏向來是中國考生寫作的通病。四級寫作中，經常會出現整篇作文一個詞用到底的情況，例如一遇到「改變/變化」就是change，「影響」就是effect，「流行」就是popular， 「因為」就是because，「意識到」就是realize等。
試想一下，閱卷老師在批閱了無數篇作文並產生了審美疲勞後，最想看到什麼？肯定是一些能讓人眼前一亮的詞彙或短語。所以，考生就要從用詞的多樣性方面來吸引閱卷老師的眼球。其實英語詞彙是很豐富的，同一個意思可以有很多不同的詞彙來表達。下面表格列舉了一些常見詞彙的多種表達方式。
